instaling a new diesel motor in my m1008

I run that section of 81 twice a day, once about 5:30-6 and again about midnight. Don't know if I've ever seen you out there, I've seen a deuce a couple times and an old Dodge PW down around Castle Creek and a couple time something I have no idea what it was but the lights on were dim VERY dim...

    M1009 Little Red Riding Hood.

I used to love working on cars and trucks, did that for many many years and was happy. Then I went back to work for a shop that I had worked at years before, my oh my, how things had changed! No longer was it a small quality oriented shop, I should've bailed right then but NOOO not me I stuck it...

    6.2 headers

Any one ever use a weld your own header kit to make a set of 6.2 headers? I think headers would really wake the old girl up.

instaling a new diesel motor in my m1008

In NY no minimum limit posted, many time I wish there was as I'll be cruising at 65mph and all of a sudden come across some old blue hair roaring down the road at the break neck speed of 40-45!

    M1009 Little Red Riding Hood.

I'm not in the market just curios what is it worth as is compared to finished? I know the work involved in putting that back together and a proper paint job. When you sell them have you ever figured out your per hour profit or do you not want to know :) ?

If you packed more stuff in on and around it there would be less dust, I know that for a fact!

    Axle swap or not

Another option yet to be mentioned is keep the 308 axles and change out the TH400 to a TH700r4 or 460LE, both will give you a lower 1st gear to get the bigger tires rolling AND an overdrive to keep them rolling at 70+mph. May be cheaper too depending on what you can do and the cost of a donor...

    Axle swap or not

It is what it is, if your not off roading and beating on it why change it? If you had a set of gears or better yet axles just sitting around then I can understand it. For the average daily driver with a few hunting/camping trips its strong enough.

    Troubleshooting Suspension Issue

Is it the whole left side or just the left rear corner? I'd start by loosening the rear shackle bolts and while under there take a good look and make sure you have the shackles in correectly (if removed) and make sure the springs are the same. Count the leaves and make sure you didn't turn one...

M1008 6.2-flywheel to crankshaft to balancer

Oh I remember that knocking sound well! I was on a trip and had them come loose and it messed up the threads so I couldn't tighten them! What to do? I'm stuck out of town and really couldn't afford to buy and pay for parts and labor so the good ole boy that owned a roadside shop let me use his...

Down to the frame she goes!

I seem to spend a lot of time cleaning the garage and putting tools away, I have no idea how it gets so messy:shock:

Down to the frame she goes!

Not at the moment. When you remove the cab from the frame are you planning on replacing the rockers off the frame? If so you might be surprised at how much the cab flexes and the door opening changes! I've done this a couple times and found that welding a piece of angle iron across from the A...

    Front U Joint replacement

Are you retiring from CUCV's? Or getting to be like me and just plain tired?

Down to the frame she goes!

A few months ago I was at a spring auction that has 100's of vehicles, I was surprised to find an 86 M1008 complete and solid with a snowplow I bid it up $1700. and it went for a bit less than $2000.! It would've been a great replacement, all set and ready to roll. If I had a need for it I...

Steering wheel doesn't return from either direction

Like others said "caster" But that should've been measured and noticed at the aliagnment shop, also didn't the shop tech test drive it? I'll bet the "tech" dosn't know or understand the geometry for a proper alignment and just puts shims where the computer tells him to. Find an old shop that...

    Front U Joint replacement

I've seen that before, some hack changed out the joint and couldn't get the C clip back in so out came the MIG. Find a used replacement or have the shaft rebuilt, rebuilding isn't that expensive.

wiring harness to fuse box: how to tighten the nut

IIRC the bolt is fixed in place (or should be), as said above could that washer be the lock that holds the bolt in place?

    Fuel Mileage..

As a truck driver I've learned a few things about fuel economy. Tires with tall side walls are NOT your friend, the flex more and cost you money. The more aggressive the tread = lower MPG , not what you want to hear! Synthetic oils and greases are your friend, use them and you'll love em. Your...
