I am going to try a "free Standing" external ducted 10,000 BTU heat pump (900 watts) behind the center console (12w:14d:28h), ducted to the floor for exhaust. 2750 watt inverter 24volts. When not running the AC I have a mobile AC generator to run my camping trailer. Should get to the test...
Added a cold air intake from LMC. Bought the hose clamp locally. The LMC hood liner dropped the sound level 3-5 dB at highway speed. The intake takes off another 1-2 dB. My wife can hear me on the phone now. I don't know if that it an improvement or not ;-) undercoat will come later this summer.
AN 09 is not an 08, but my 09 is my DD, and is sees 55-65 (sometimes but seldom 70) around DC. About 10K of this with no observed issues. It does go faster now that I put in the hood liner ;-) I think it has something to do with the sound level in the cab.:-D
Ditto on Tapatalk. Works great, except for (at the risk of being flamed again) yellow text. Can't read it on Tapatalk which is a white, not green background. Small proce to pay for connectivity when all else fails (like HughesNet).
We took a road trip from Maryland to Ohio and back last month in a M1009 (better gear ratio than a M1008). I did plan the route to take US-50 instead of I-70 for half of the trip. In the hills of West Virginia on the Interstate we just stayed to the right like the rest of the trucks.
Maybe...
Finally put my LMC hood blanket in. Sounds a little quieter at idle, highway run tomorrow.
Started installing my DIY Grab Bars but broke the installation bolt. I guess that is why they call it a breaker bar ;-)
Put all the Molle pouches on my Smittybilt GEAR seat covers. Maybe my cab will be...
I actually operate Amateur Radio from my M1009. At the rear is an AB15/MS-11X NVIS HF. The other two are for SINGARS bases repurposed to single band HF (Hamsticks) I can switch between the three. On the other side is another SINGARS for VHF/UHF. Two be added are two Jerry cans for biodiesel.
What parts did you get for the air cleaner and resonator? I'm interested in "sound quality" solutions! Our 93 year old Amateur Radio morning net controller for the Holly Net says I have a lot of background noise ;-)
Agree on the SPOT - I have a friend that uses one for backcountry solo backpacking. Good for position updates to loved ones and emergency rescue.
Amateur Radio is good, but you are talking HF (unless there are VHF repeaters that cover your area). License exam price ranges from free (our club)...
Welcome to the addiction! I drive to Columbia (Howard County) frequently in my M1009 for "historical display" (it is registered as a Historic Vehicle). Give me a shout and we can get together sometime. I have the same storage box in the back of my M1009.
Someone asked me today where to get a military trailer connector for his civy truck so he can hook up his MIL trailer. I didn't know of anywhere other than SS to find the right stuff! As an IT nerd I feel your pain!
