I bought a Napa FIL4167 filter adapter which was supposed to be the same as the Wix 24067... Almost, but not quite. I was all excited about getting rid of my leaky cartridge filter.... Still leaking around that darn bolt on the end. I've replaced the brass washer and the whole bit...
So my...
I'm trying to find a slightly smaller steering wheel for my 5-ton - anyone know if I can get a smaller 3 spoke wheel somewhere? What will fit the 5-ton column?
I should have taken some pics of the entire process. Basically I took a couple of spare M900 series front bumper extensions, cut and welded them into a nice winch cradle and then mounted some 3"x3"x 1/4" angle to the top of the framerails for the winch to pin to.
I also just finished mounting...
Well, I didn't really need it, but I think it looks great with a little more vertical axle clearance over the rear tires.
Here's some pics, I also installed the taillights up into the rear bed instead of hanging down below it. I busted one taillight up already when they were mounted the old...
I bought an 8000 lb. winch that I want to wire into a couple of quick-plugs on my 5-ton. One plug up near the front of the bed so I can use it for my manual crane, the other plug back by the rear for when I need some pulling power to load stuff to the bed. I think I may build an a-frame...
I have a set of 5-ton Dualmatic hubs that I am restoring, and I'm wondering if there is anything left out there for them or do I need to start fabricating....
I need the locking levers (2 long and 4 short levers for each hub) and I need the inner star-shaped splined drive gear that slips over...
It's that safety latch on the inside mounted to the tranmission tunnel cover to keep the winch/pto lever from accidentally engaging. I need to fab one up, and I want to make it right the first time.
Also, my winch clutch lever mounted to the winch itself is marked "clutch-in" and "clutch-out"...
First is obviously the left side case of my winch - it started leaking after I bumped the lever down and did the "Oh Crap!" move of reeling in until I sheared the aluminum pin. No damage visible to the bumper or winch otherwise. I didn't see any cracks or bent metal.
The next is a nasty littl...
Take a look at these pics - It looks like the rubber bushing torqued out of the trailing arm when I got a little off-axis today while doing.... Well, I think it's best if I don't say what I was doing...
Anyway, is it now ruined or can it be fixed? How hard is it to change these out? Where is...
I'm bouncing around the idea of getting a knuckle crane like cranetruck did for my M813.
How do I run my front winch AND the hydraulic pump off my pto? Do I have to convert my front winch to hydraulic drive?
Any specific cranes I should be looking for? What are the advantages of the HEMTT...
My XM813A1 is doing great EXCEPT for the recent snows lately have made it very obvious that when in forward gears I have no forward axle engagement but in reverse I do.
I have a spare complete transfercase, but I'd rather get some possiible ideas lined up before I tear into it. I want to do...
I'm planning my turbo'd engine swap on my M813 soon and I've got a dilemma about which motor to get. A friend of mine has a low-use 855 ci Cummins with the piston coolers, turbo setup, complete (is this the NTC-290?) he'll sell me for $2000. It's apparently a small cam 855 but puts out...
I want that BIG truck sound (and the extra braking would sure be nice too!)
Does anyone make a REAL Jacobs style engine brake?
(not an exhaust brake, although if I can't find a Jake brake I may do an exhaust brake...)
Driving home today I spotted an abandoned car in a turnout along the road near my house that has been dumped for a week or two now. This is a real common spot for jerks to dump off their junk cars for the county (aka-taxpayers) to remove...
I felt like it was my civic responsibility to pitch...
I already have a NSN P/n (5330-01-396-0000) for the M813 PTO gasket.
Does anyone have any part numbers for other civilian brands I can use to cross reference for the NAPA number when I try to find one tomorrow?
Is this the same gasket pattern as a M35?
I just installed the PTO for my winch on my M813 yesterday, and refilled the tranny with fresh 80-90 gear oil (walmart brand SuperTech ) (11 quarts, until it ran out the filler plug) and now it's shifting funny and making more noise then it used to.
It isn't as willing to go into 3rd or 4th...
I could use a bit more thigh clearance in my M813 with the new seats. Is there any steering wheel that would fit that is a bit smaller in diameter?
With the power steering, I really don't need the huge bus-driver wheel.... It helped on my Deuce, it's in the way in the 5-ton...
