I had/have same prob. Throttle cable frayed and stuck the throttle open. Tried three different cables and all are too short. I have not figured out how to adjust for the shorter cable and drive it with the higher idle. I also dropped the round clip every time. A flashlight and my wife's small...
All the windows in my M1009 leak...including the side topper glass. I recently went to a glass shop (in Miami) and they told me they would not guarantee aftermarket window seals for a truck that old. What they WOULD guarantee was to carefully remove the strip or lacing in the middle of the...
I bypassed the noise filters on my wiper motor and re-grounded the motor with new wire to bare metal. MUCH faster. I also replaced all the washer hoses and cleaned the reservoir of 25 years of sludge/gunk/slime. System works great now...even for Miami rains!
I agree with you guys...I have solid rear windows and would gladly drive to GA for sliders! It is hot as Hades here in Miami and with no AC or headliner I could use all the airflow I can get (and even that can't be called "cool")! The solid windows are a nice look but not practical for a daily...
My M1009 is the same. Fuel gauge gets to "E" and I can get 16-17 gallons in it. Probably safer like that, although I always wished I could "adjust" the gauge to the left a bit.
It has been my experience, both personal and on this board, that most people do NOT buy CUCVs because of their fuel economy. I had wanted an M1009 Blazer for years and when I had the opportunity to buy one I did.
I knew it would be a labor of love. I knew that a 25 year old truck would cost me...
Congrats! Looks like a good one...**** it's got a brushguard, shackles and hangars, bridgeplate, windshield wipers and a....solargizer? That's all more than mine had when I got it!
Just did a car wash pressure wash of my M1009 engine/engine bay last week. Left the engine running and took care not to direct spray the air cleaner or alternators. Worked like a champ and cleaned up nice.
allenhill - that is BAD @$$! the obvious question would be...where did you get that!?! But I have a feeling Napa don't stock those. More details would be nice, however!
I use a quart of cheap 2 cycle TWC oil and Diesel Kleen for about 20 gallons on every fill up. Truck runs smoother, MUCH quieter and I get a little better fuel economy. I subscribe to the "ATF is not meant to be burned and 2 cycle oil is", philosophy. May give Sea Foam a try too.
