Thanks for all the good advice guys!
Warthog - I actually found a place in Miami. Plan on stopping by tomorrow. Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the obvious...I never figured there would actually be a gauge repair shop in Miami!
Medic - I was unaware (as I am on most things on this...
Thanks for the link, Bunker, and keeping us needy members in mind on the boards. But...am I just cheap or does $100 seem like alot for 4 shackles (with no hangars)?
Anybody know of a way/place/person that rebuilds CUCV speedos?
My original is toast. I picked up a used 100 mph speedo from same year truck...hosed as well. So now I have 2 bad speedometers and hate to shell out more $$ for a new one...and I know...I know...I am sure it's the speedos...no...
4boggin - You are right. I am out of the country now so the truck is enjoying the Miami sunshine without me. I'll snap picks when I get back...I just wish I had take "before" pics.
four_by - I just shined a flashlight at the cluster to see the colors...not all those lights come on when you...
I have replaced mine with LED's. I used a wedge type 168/194 replacement the same color as the idiot light lens. I thought it looked way better than just white. Make sure you use a LED with MORE than one LED. I found that a single LED IS NOT brighter than stock bulb replacements. I went for 4 to...
Besides 25 years of dirt and dust inside the dashboard I found a spare door key while running down light/gauge problems...I thought I was lucky until I read some of the other posts!!
I know this is a month old but I would actually like to put a light in my TC shifter console (I have fixed all the other electrical issues). Does anybody know what type (or p/n) socket that is? I have scoured local parts stores (not junkyards...yet) and cannot find the correct socket for the...
Warthog that text file is invaluable (and time saving). It just so happens that I have my dash on the kitchen table too! I was thinking about moving my GEN1 and GEN2 lights and was about to figure out the color scheme of the wires...thanks for saving me the time.
If you need those "button"...
I run my stock 1009 70-75 with no problems at all. Have hit 80 (on my GPS) to pass without incident as well. Don't expect to have a conversation, though!
I was stationed in Panama from 1987 to 1990, when I got out of the Army. Since I was in a signal battalion we had a strange mix of old Jeeps, Dodge & Chevy CUCV's and different cars. The predominant truck parked outside the barracks and/or place of duty was the CUCV pickup. I never even saw a...
They look bad ass...and some of those mods are what alot of us want to do with them anyway. **** shame I'm in Miami! I know there are more "specialized" Army units that are free to spend their vehicle budgets any way they like. Not all units have to settle for what they are given.
Thanks for the clarification and pic, FIEND. My truck already shifts at those ranges...but I'll check the vacuum lines anyway. I am assuming you mean to tell us that your mileage IMPROVED (by 24%?) after you performed the bypass??
Very cool. I'm looking forward to breaking 20 MPG on mine (currently 18 hwy). But I have to ask...what is the bypassing of the Vacuum regulator on the ip??
I have 2 red-top Optimas in mine and it works fine. Waayyy smaller than the actual trays so it ain't pretty but it's fucntional. BTW I see ya scored sliding rear windows on one of those...SWEET!
Bone stock '85 1009
Bought over Thanksgiving in N.C.
Cut up the air cleaner housing, replaced filter, changed oil, ran tank dry and refilled adding a bottle of diesel additive/injector cleaner
Drove 750 miles to Miami between 70-75 mph
Averaged 18 mpg and ran great
Looking forward to breaking 20...
