It depends state to state the definition of “road worthy”. In Nebraska they title and license the HMMWV just like a pickup. I think a lot of states consider them off road because of the fact they are emissions exempt and they don’t have any info as far as safety in crashes (at least that’s what...
Thanks for the pics! Now it’s time to start cutting and welding and hope for the best. I think I can make my own version of the mounts for my top or at least make something that will work. I do have two more questions.
#1 How does the back of the cab usually connect to the top and the rest of...
What is the difference between the C pillar I have and the one you are supposed to have for a hard top? You can’t tell anything from the pics in post 7 other than the windshield frame sits tight to the top. You can see any of the mounts. Can someone post a picture of the mounts on their hard top...
I understand it will still be custom. That doesn’t bother me. I just want to see how all the other hard tops out there fit and how they are attached. Good to know the front has mounts. How about the B and C pillars?
I don’t have a turret unfortunately so no worries there. How do the tops usually attach to the B and C pillar? How does the top attach to the windshield frame? Are they bolted or welded? How far down the pillars does the edge of the top go? I am trying to get a good idea of what normal aluminum...
It is all aluminum. Aluminum doors with windows that go up and down. Aluminum roof and aluminum cab back. The cab back. The back window has been cut bigger and replaced with a back sliding window from an 80’s Chevy pickup.
No idea who the manufacturer is.
It doesn’t look bad I just like the look of them the way they are original. Any pictures of the inside of a normal hard top would be great. I think this might be a normal size hard top just has a spaced up roof and tall doors.
I have a 93 M1038 with a tall hard top and hard doors but I prefer the standard height top so I am thinking about taking it back to regular height. I am pretty sure my top and back of the cab are standard size. Doors are taller but I can cut off whatever is necessary to make them fit (or trade...
What are the battery posts covered with when they come from AM General? I have been told that with my deep water ford kit there are supposed to be some kind of waterproof caps on the battery connections but have not been able to find them.
You can get rolls of 1/4 closed cell insulation on Amazon for $66 for 25ftx4ft. Works great only thing is you need your own adhesive. 3M super 99 works great. I have a vehicle with Dynomat, one with Hushmatt, and the Humvee has the $66 a roll stuff. Seems to do just as good as the other two at...
How do you like the Plexi windows? I need to replace two of mine and was debating on what route to go. Currently I have laminated glass windows and to replace them will be about $65 a window cut locally.
Does anybody know who used to make it still might make tall top kits? My 93 HMMWV has a tall hard top and tall doors and I am trying to find parts for the door latches. I will try to get some up close pictures of the doors and latches today sometime. So far mine is the only one I have seen with...
I think everyone is missing the whole part about IT IS ALL PERSONAL PREFERENCE!!!!!!! I was simply trying to point out there are other options than paint. Not trying to say paint is bad and not trying to say bed liner is some magical coating that makes your vehicle indestructible. Most people...
That is awesome to know! The bracket is ridiculously expensive. Has anyone tried modifying the stock shifter to make it a 4 speed? B&M 3 speed shifters can be changed to 4 speed by changing a piece on the side. Basically looks the same only notched slightly farther for 4 gears. Didn’t know if...
What year did you do your conversion on? Just curious because I have read multiple places that the 93 and earlier you have to change tanks because the 4L80 being longer causes rub and the 94 and newer A1 models have a slightly different tank. I don’t know that to be fact just what I have found...
Bed liner won’t hurt your resale value it will actually up it a little. There are lots of Humvees for sale that have bed liner paint job and they all have a higher price tag because of it.
Pretty sure that if you crease the aluminum you will be able to see the dent or crease whether you have...
I am getting ready to do the 700r4 conversion in my 93 and have learned a few new things. Since it’s a 27 spline output shaft you either need to change output shafts or t case input. You can get a 32 spline output for the 700r4 but it is a stock shaft cut off with a 32 spline end welded on. It’s...
Bed liner doesn’t strip easy is correct so make sure if you do it you clean up quickly afterwards and have everything taped off good. Found out on a dodge that the little stuff that got on the box side didn’t come off easy after an hour. Still easier and less mess than paint.
The smooth coat I have is NOT slick when wet. It has lots of traction and is actually made to use on boat decks. Durabak makes lots of versions of their product so make sure you get the right one. The textured version is going to look like crap as an exterior finish especially if you use the...
