Thanks for the heads up. I will look them up to see if anyone is still active with their FMTV. It will be cool that we can share knowledge, tools and skills with folks among us.
Hello Tow2gunner,
Just found this thread. I am in Elkton too. Just about to get a M1078 myself after all this time dreaming about it. Love to hear from you about your experience in getting the rig registered in MD. Currently, with the COVID19 shutdown really does not help. I look forward...
Besides ride height differences, can M1078 tow an M1102 trailer? Are their bolt pattern different? I assume that the trailer brake and light should work with an M1078?
TIA
Progressive commercial gave us a quote of $450 a year, not bad at all. They also said that if we are modifying the vehicle and not driving it, we can deactivate the liability, it will only cost us $5 a month. :)
I was planning to add an 18- or 24" extension to the frame and chop off whatever I don't need from the container. Just in a planning stage, adjust as I gain more knowledge. The real concern is the container weight.
Has anyone fitted a 20' container on an M1078? I'm not sure if the container is too heavy after I finish the outfit of the living quarter. Just looking for options. I was thinking to use a communication shelter, but it seems too short.
look forward to hearing your input. Thanks.
@coachgeo and @simp5782: Gentlemen, thanks for the heads up. Feel free to move my post.
Called Progressive Ins, they confirmed that we can get insurance from them. I need to gather more info on the vehicle before they can give us a quote. Thank you folks.
Trying to get insurance for the M1078 truck in the state of Maryland. The truck will eventually be an RV. Geico does not insure the truck. Anyone in Maryland knows how to go about this? TIA.
Hmmm.... it seems that your plan is very much like mine.
1. At 70 mph what rpm do you get with 2.87?
2. Let me know if you find a 290HP turbo.
3. Do you have Bret's contact handy?
Thank you so much.
I don't need to drive at 70 mph, but it is nice to have that option.
If our health holds up, we would like to travel from Alaska to the very tip of Argentina for the next 5 to 6 years. Our goal wants to stay in Alaska and Patagonia for a year or so each. But yet, we have to be realistic...
Thanks, Fuzzy !!! This is the most valuable input. Thank you for taking the time.
Mine will be a 3116 engine. I have no intention to up its HP but would like to consider it if the cost and complexity are manageable for the weekend mechanics
For those who have done this switch, is there any preference between these two? Pros and Cons. How much do you give up on offroad slow crawling speed?
I assume the switch is a direct disassemble and install unlike the traditional ring and pinion install, right?
TIA
I wrote their website (national contact). I believe it is their corporate policy not allow visitors which I can understand. They claim that they have the ironclad in place and there is no need for inspection of any item. However, except for vehicles, all the items have no description of the...
Does anyone know the exact address of this site? Do they allow people to look at the items before bidding? Can we just be nice and get a pass to take a peek ? :D
