If the timing is off, is it possilbe that too much fuel is being drawn into the pump?

I did a search but found nothing on my issue: I just changed out my injector pump with a remanufactured pump. The engine has a lot more power than before. However, there is a lot of unburned fuel coming out of the exhaust. I can really see it at night when there are headlights behind me...
