Will washing it with the aggregate give it enough tooth for the primer to bind to the surface? Should I go with a rustoleum primer rather than the Rapco?
Once the weather warms up I am going to have a crack at painting the M813. I already have the patterns and I think I will free hand the CARC 3 color. There is quite a bit of surface rust on the truck and I am going to use an industrial strength power washer to take off all the loose paint and...
How many gallons did that take? I am going to do paint on my 5-ton in the spring but I will need to get it down to bare metal. The paint was brushed on and has all but chipped off. I will probably also do one color so I don't have to spray the pattern, I am not confident that I could make it...
We are going to try to spoil it as much as possible. It will be getting a fresh coat of paint in the spring and maybe a few add ons like a master cylinder reservoir kit.
That is pretty cool. I would love to have a right hand drive vehicle (preferably a MV) for the novelty of the thing but you would really have to trust your passenger before you went to pass anyone. I guess that being done to a 5-Ton solves the problem because it sits high enough you can see over...
Took the 5-Ton from my house to the garage at my uncles where it will be staying. 50 miles with no issues at all. I did need to put my garage heater under the block this morning to fire her up though. That engine is awesome but it is no fan of the winter temperatures. The garage it is in now is...
Don't jump on the first one that pops up for sale around you. Take your time and figure out what you want than be patient in finding the right deal. If you wait long enough you will find a good deal on a solid truck. Make yourself familiar with the classifieds on this site and your local...
I am sure I will get there in time. For now I am still just a softie. I was pretty spoiled by the heater and hard top, it was a really cold weekend and they managed to keep the cap relatively warm.
Here are a few of the pictures from the trip. I have not posted many pics since the new site format so we will see if this works out the way I planned. If it does, the first picture features the M813A1 in its natural habitat. The next picture is my older brother and copilot cutting his teeth on...
It is the stock seat. I guess I just have not conditioned my gluteus maximus for these big trucks yet. I have been spoiled by my F150 and my M38A1 which has plenty of padding.
I am home in Rochester now. It was a real long drive at 50mph. This morning I determined that 3 hours is my limit on that 5-ton seat before I need a stretch. I left the camera up north but I will try to post some pics once my folks get back home after new years. Thanks to everyone that helped me...
I am at my cottage in West Branch now. The truck ran great and we did not have any issues. It was a great drive through northern Michigan. I think taking that truck over the Mackinac Bridge was my personal highlight of 2012. Andy was great and very helpful to a dumb kid who has never driven a 5...
It looks like I will be headed up the the UP tomorrow to recover Camp9's M813. I have about a 400 mile trip back to my house and it should be a beautiful trip through northern Michigan this time of year. Can I get some contact information along the route from Garden to Rochester in case...
The seats are wrong. It is missing the back seat, spare tire and window crank. If you can get it running easily $1500 would not be a bad price. One they have sat for a few years things really start to go to crap so look it over real close.
Who needs an interior? Step 1: get yourself over to the home depot and but one of those orange buckets. Step 2: carefully turn bucket upside down and place of drivers side floor board. Step 3: hit the highway. If you want an adjustable seat just put a milk crate and a couple 2x12"s in the back...
