I would wait until you have a place close to home to keep it. Once you have the fever you will want to drive it all of the time. I intended to keep my jeep up at my summer place but I was afraid separation anxiety would set in so I still have it at my house. There is nothing better than just...
Just out of curiosity, how are you going to make the front end take 1100# extra right over the axle? It sounds like it would be cool but it also could turn into one of those projects that never pans out and you end up selling everything in pieces.
I got my '09 in your price range. It ran great and was all original but did have some rot in the wheel wells. I had to watch craigslist for a long time to find that deal though. The key is patience, don't hop on the first one you see for sale if you want a good deal.
Just to throw in my two cents on the speed. Every truck is different but my '09 was most comfortable around 60-65. I knew it could go faster but I did not want to push it and my fuel mileage was amazing(mid 20s) if I kept it right about 60mph.
I know here in MI, where road salt kills all cars, people will pay good money for original steel. I can guarantee that there is someone who is doing a restoration and would kill for a good 170 body.
I have never heard of the military doing that. It was probably a civi mod to get the revs down a bit on the highway. I test drove a M1008 last year that was in "military stock" condition or so the owner said. I about went off the road when I took off in 4wd. I think it had a 3.08 in the rear and...
They are all pretty rough and incomplete. Jeep 1, the M170, is the most valuable, it is probably worth a few thousand($2-$3.5K). Jeep 2 has some value too, $1500ish. Jeeps 3 and 4 are probably worth less as a whole than the remaining parts that they have, I would say they are worth less than a...
Looks like a great start for a project with really solid bones, good find. I think my next Jeep will be an M38, I can feel the flatty fever starting already. I need an MA, MB, and a MC to round out my collection.
It would probably be a lot more than that. You can take trucks and trains to Panama. To get it from PR, you will have to pay to have it taken on a ship then switched over to rail or truck. I can not see it being worth the money.
Here is how to do it right:

Ah, to have an extra $30k laying around and the space to use this.
When I had my CUCV it would get water in it every time it rained but it would just drain through some holes in the floor boards:D. It was not a sexy solution but it worked.
My condolences, I lost a bike to that when I was five.
I second the 24v. There are a lot of hack jobs out there that are 12v and you will no longer be able to use the TMs for help. The closer to stock condition it is in, the more help you will be able to get from this site. Also, Don't rush...
Looks like a good starting point for a resto. Alot of the hard to find parts are still on it, which is nice. I need to start amassing the 24v parts for my jeep so I can change it back over.
Of course it is worth it! MVs are not something you can just have one of. I am sure that another one will find its way into your garage sometime, they always seem to do that.
