Given time, patience & a few bits of metal, anything can be adapted to most anything else...
Once you start changing things here & there, what's left on the truck that makes it remain a CUCV?

Spicer 3053A Deuce transmission - tough as a steel anvil, shifts like a real truck transmission should, they are cheap & nearly indestructible... and NV4500's - while okay - do have their weaknesses, aren't cheap to buy, use pricey synthetic fluid, and good ones are harder to find.

Spicergear.... I've got extra sets of the big bell-housing & required bits for more swaps...
Including the much-coveted dual-pattern bell housing... :)

What condition is the 230 in currently that makes you believe that you need more oomph?
I'd save your time and effort & not even attempt the install. The turbo may not have the proper A/R ratio to be of any benefit, and the flathead Dodge 230 is not really optimized for adding on a turbo. The...
The aforementioned slushboxes can be installed behind the Inline 6's/V6's/V8's, but MAY require moving transfer case rearward if engine/transmission combo is long in combined length. Which in turn could require new/modified driveshafts. There has been talk on various forums in regards to using a...
The Budd rim used on the M37 is correctly called a lock-ring style rim, specifically named a lock-ring wheel of the type known as the "Good Year, Light Truck Safety" design. The Dodge Power Wagon and M37 family use the 16x6.50 H Budd rim size.
People often incorrectly call these a split-rim...
I'll add that the Spicer 3053A 5-speed would be a nice swap with a small-block Chevy, or maybe it's bastard offspring 4.3 Chevy V6 instead - AND note that GM Goodwrench engines give you a 12 month / 12k mile warranty when installed in 'non-cataloged applications', which mean if the chassis is...
The conversion flange yoke/u-joints available to adapt the 3053A output to the M37 short shaft are the way to go... and correct on the need to fab a rear trans mount for the 3053A - it's a heavy trans, but not that much more than the weight of a NV4500 & way cheaper on the required transmission...
...but nothing here states that any state's DMV/BMV is REQUIRED to allow you to license/register said ex-MV. The common perception that I interpret from all this is a belief that just because the Government or some entity can SELL you an ex-MV, that the government - whether local or Federal -...
You are correct that this is not relevant to the discussion - the gas converted diesel engines in question were made over 25 years - Not one whit to do with GM's issues of today.
To the OP: please post some records of your fuel consumption with the 350 gas motor; it would be an interesting...
Kyle:
Conversion engine? This has been covered MANY times... the 6.2/6.5 was designed by Detroit Diesel from the outset as a light-duty 'fuel pincher' diesel. NOTHING on this engine was a conversion from a gas engine.
From thedieselpage.com: "The 6.2L diesel was a brand new "ground-up"...

Not trying to sway you on the swap, but I am not aware of anyone having performed a 4BT/Allison 1000 swap into an M37... also, the aftermarket has stand-alone controllers available, and wiring harnesses & bits for swap, but they will be pricey...
Since you've already got the 'big bits' for the...
What TCM do you plan to use? Which 38" tires?
There is another option: use the Spicer 3053A 5-speed manual from a multifuel M35 behind the 4BT Cummins & the package fits the M37 well.
And no electronic controls to deal with like on the Allison. And lots cheaper.

Not sure if you have seen this, but here are the HP/TQ curves for a naturally aspirated 6.2 - info from Gale Banks, where they compare it to a turbo'd 6.2...

If I missed any mention of it in the previous comments, be sure to use the GM factory style starter bolts & install the starter brace bracket when you install the new starter! Without the brace, you'll stand the chance of having the starter twist against it's mounting bolts when you crank up the...
