If you are willing to go outside the frame rail (perhaps forward, near the bumper) there are ONE ZILLION choices.
You can do an advanced search to only show listings with photos.
If you want to stay "stock"-ish...
Look on the Driver's side front of the bed. I have a 1971 & the bed has a sticker saying for replacement parts identification contact Jeep Corporation. It's in the very front, outside, driver's side of the bed right above the yellow reflector.
Dry rot is a combination process. Not only is it UV that attacks the rubber, but the oxygen in the atmosphere as well. Storing in a garage or under a car cover can help. But it won't stop the slow oxidation process. And once the cracks develop it can allow water to seep in & rust the steel...
Yeah, those darned terrorists win all the GL auctions! Don't seem to have any problems with EUC's & SF97's either.
But seriously, you make a good point. Radium is no longer used in wrist watches b/c of the health concerns. Chances are the DOD didn't want any future headache...
You can lock it out with a 3/8" pin. But you have to make sure the surge is already disengaged before you do it (the hole will be open). If you're backing it up already then chances are the surge is engaged (the hole will be covered/partially covered). Otherwise, wire in one of these...
When you build your lift kit, just add another 2-3 inches to it just in case you want to change to 53's in the future. To get full articulation off road you'll probably want to lift it anyway, even with 46" tires. 53-46 = 7 /2 =3.5 inch less clearance w/53's.
If you go with a 6" lift instead...
XZL's are much stronger. 53's would require a significant frame lift.

Yeah, it's scorching here in Las Vegas as well. I just bought an M105A3. It came complete with bows & cover. When it gets cooler (mid-August) I want to assemble it & take it camping. Until I get around to making a slide-in camper for the Deuce (2-3 yrs) I figured the covered trailer would...
Thanks. Do the cargo cover bows simply slide into the uprights or do they have to be bolted in? Also, how does the canvas/vinyl attach? Is it simply roped through grommets on the bottom of the canvas to the tie downs around the trailer?
Can somebody explain to me what exactly these five brackets on each side are used for? The cargo hoops (5 of them) go into the 5 upright stakes on each side from front to back. Are these brackets used for some kind of reinforcing? They are bolted to the top rail, 5 on each side. I assume...
If you use two 12volt alternators, one running to each battery then yes it would still have 24 volts when wired in series. But, you would have to isolate the 12-24 alternator with nylon bushings & make sure there are no circuits completed between it & the 0-12 ground. To do otherwise would...
Agreed. And don't forget to add that it is WE who paid OUR OWN portion of Social Security. It is not the younger generation that will pay for us. Rather, it is our own hard work and a lifetime of labor that will make for that ever-diminishing Social Security check in our old age. The hidden...
Fluiddamper is great. I've used them on SB Chevy with good results. Two downsides ... One is the $$$. The other is you need to buy Fluiddampers puller if you ever decide to remove it. A regular damper puller will ruin it.
