Going by your stated use I would say you should be fine with 18,000 pounds as your GVW (truck with a full load of fuel should be between 13,000 and 14,000 pounds from what I understand). As far as CDL's VA exempts trucks used for personal stuff. The normal point for a CDL would be a GVWR of...
First off, welcome to SS Eric. Nice to see more people joining in on the OD addiction. :)
I think what Area52 is being subtle about is your location doesn't tell us much. MB could be initials for a lot of places. The reason putting a location in your profile is a requirement by those in charge...
First off welcome to SS. Always nice to see a new member join in on the fun. :)
Virginia is pretty cool when it comes to the type of driver's license required to drive a big truck. They follow federal guidelines, you can drive any size truck with a regular license as long as you are hauling...
Hi Pete,
First off congrats on the M818. Are you going to leave it as a tractor or are you looking at putting a bed from a deuce and a half on it? If you leave it as a tractor do you have a CDL?
As far as your initial questions I would not worry about not posting what kind of truck you were...
Sorry, have an ATHS chapter meeting on the 12th down in Bradenton to go to. Otherwise I would bring my semi truck out (it's not military, but what I'm bring back from GA in a few days is :) ).

Okay. Nevermind. :)
Not really looking at getting rid of it, just trying to downsize. It's more trailer then I'll ever need (don't feel like paying an extra $500 a year for tags plus the HVUT in order to haul as much as it can handle) and the extra weight of the trailer just adds weight that...
In Florida if it's a straight truck then no CDL is needed. Just a regular auto license. Would only need a CDL for a 5 ton if it had a fifth wheel on the back and no cargo bed.
Just be careful if you take it out of state. You might want to read up on IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) and...
The permanent antique tag is pretty cheap (something like 20 to 30 bucks, this is a one time fee and not annual), the catch is you can only use the truck for certain events. If you want to be able to use the truck with no restrictions then you have to pay for truck tags that are based on the...
The trick is the HVUT is not a Florida issue for the state to get more money. The HVUT is a federal highway tax and it's the feds who are demanding the money, not the state. All the state is asking for is proof that you paid the HVUT to the feds for a vehicle with a GVW of 55,000 pounds or more...
I will be in the Macon area Saturday afternoon to get another truck. I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon. If you run in to any problems in the Macon area on your way back let me know (I will PM you my cell phone number in a minute). I added a pic of what I will be driving up there.
Hope you...
The HVUT is only if you are asking for tags with a registered weight of 55,000 pounds or more. Did you list down a "GVW" on the forms for the antique plate? If so if it was over 55,000 pounds then that is why they are asking for it. If not then they are wrong to ask for the HVUT.
On a...
First off that is a sweet looking rig! Congrats on the purchase. :)
Now for a question. You mentioned converting it to a toterhome. Do you mean as in having a fifth wheel on the back or are you going for a normal RV conversion? The reason I ask is I'm trying to figure out how a toterhome (a...
I think I jinxed myself by replying to this thread earlier. Yesterday I fixed the brake lights and turn signal system on my International and last night I went out to the truck to back it up to the trailer and finish some wiring for the running lights. When I hooked up to the trailer I noticed...
I would start with an ohm check of the cable and go from there. That or use a voltmeter to make sure you have power at the connecter that plugs in to the trailer.
