I wanted to congratulate you on the purchase of the A3; I also need a small favor at the same time. I just bought an NOS 24 volt tachometer off of Ebay which goes in the A3 - I have an M1008A1 which I want to install the tach into. Any chance of getting you to see where all the wires go that...
Yep! It's an A3 tach! Now I will have to get hold of that SS member in Gainesville to see if he can trace where all the wires go on him newly acquired M35A3. Chances are I will wind up with a nice static display! The photo came from a GL auction taking place at Ft. Drum by the way.
Thanks for the tip about the A3's. There are a few for sale on GL and lots of photos of the gauge panels, etc. I would enjoy knowing the application for this tach and whether I can adapt it to fit my CUCV. It may require one or more transducers. Once I find out the manufacturer I'll take it...
I think this one just has separate wires for the hour gauge, then again I will have to see what I have once it gets here. The seller is in Wilmington NC and will probably list more of these on Ebay pretty soon. Even if I can't get it to work it will look nice somewhere in the truck!
I just bought a tach just like the one you have in your HMMWV for a little over $3.00 from Ebay; the description indicted it was "new". I am hoping it will work in my M1008A1 with the 6.2 & 24 volt system. I may want to talk you out of a photo of where the wires go. I'll include a photo of...
Thanks for the info Jeepin! I went over to Pirtek and had a new hose made but did not know about the spring inside of the original hose; consequently the new hose tends to collapse in a tight bend. I will have to pull the new hose and insert the spring then I expect everything will be just...
Thanks you very much for the information Mbsk01. The nearest Pirtek dealer is only a few miles away so I will be heading over there first thing Monday morning. I think I read another thread about this same hose going bad on an MEP003 so it must be a common problem with that particular hose...
Just wondering if fuel line parts are readily available - one of mine leaks very badly! I guess I could have one made but thought I would see if anyone has knowledge of where to buy these. I hope the photo comes out....
When I bought my 12-bolt H1 rims and tires I paid $350.00 for five of them; only two had run flats inside. One of the other tires had some kind of thick rubber spacer that probably kept the bead on the rim (guessing). They came with the Penta nuts so I had to remove them and buy the proper...
Here's a link to a Craig's List ad offering a set of the 8-bolt H1 rims that you are looking for. If the link does not work simply go into the Florida area of Craig's List and then into Orlando and use the word "military" to find the ad; the individual only wants $200.00 for the rims but I am...
Pulled the cover off the front differential in the 79 K5 and took a picture of the ring gear - looks like 41 teeth on the ring and 14 on the pinion - ratio should be 2.93 very high and I am surprised they had this ratio in a vehicle used for hauling trailers! I imagine they depend on the...
Thanks for the offer DM but my M1008A1 has an M1009 data plate on the door that I have to swap with the correct plate for the truck. It's great to see that parts are so easily interchangeable with the CUCV! The ratio listing that Hobie237 just posted is really nice to have for future...
That's great information to know! Looks like you could almost bolt this one into an M1009 ; unfortunately I pulled the guts out of the differential before knowing this (I like to take things apart). The frame with the front and rear differentials is going for scrap tomorrow or Friday for sure...
That's a great bit of advice DMgunn! I know I made the mistake when I counted the teeth. The 3:07 gear ratio is kinda high for the CUCV but fuel economy would increase a little. Now I will have to see what is in the 79 K5 differential which will probably be lower due to being a "trailering...
Thanks for bringing the 43 to my attention. My eyes are getting pretty bad these days! I had a problem with a detached retna in my right eye so my eyesight will never be the same as it once was. Glad I took the macro of the ring gear numbers!
For some reason I thought the M1009 came with a 10 bolt rear differential. My M1008A1 has the 14 bolt Detroit Locker which is as good as it gets. Eventually I hope to acquire an M1009 and will save up the parts I need to make it heavier duty. The 12 bolt rear axle out of the 79 K5 looks like...
Gov Loc & gear ratios
Just got another 12 bolt rear with the Gov Loc inside. I pulled the thing apart tonight and everything looks like new inside. Ring gear has 44 teeth, pinion 14. Sounds like a high ratio to me! Now that I have two of these 12 bolt rears with the Gov Loc, would they be...
JDTOUMANIAN, Hesperia CA! Ever buy stuff from Military Surplus Parts in Hesperia? We come out to San Jose once in a while and I always drive over to Hesperia to visit a friend of mine named Bob Gumbert (Gump). We have property in McArthur and would love to move there but now that laws are...
CUCVFAN I remember paying over $500.00 just for a new canvas cargo cover with two new canvas front and rear curtains. Considering you have the complete kit you should get around $800 to $1000 for the setup. I bought a lot of the components separately for my M35A2C and spent about $1000 plus...
