Not doubting your frt stock springs have sagged over the years but keep in mind
STOCK the truck sat rear high.
When they load it, it would sit just about level.
Also I think the shop should have run by you what they were doing before they did it, unless you just dropped it off & said "fix it".
In the early 80's there were very few safety items in ANY vehicles & even then most 1 tons were exempt from them. I drove a 1 TON dually in high school to get around the bs seatbelt law.

There are quite a few aftermarket options out there.
Check with a good Quality local tire/wheel shop.
1st thing they will ask is, What type of vehicle are they going on ?
Nowadays you can even have wheels made to your specs.
