If you are going to pull it with your M1009, be careful of the stress on the rear bumper. When I hauled this type of trailer, it yanked on my bumper real well and put a stress crack in it.
I'm heading west in August. Right now, I have a full load but if I can get a bigger trailer, I would be glad to help you out. I can haul your trailer door too door.
Just some info:
I hauled one of these behind my M1009 last year from Memphis to Portland, OR. It towed fine except that it bounced a lot. I was able to tow it at 70mph without a problem until I hit the bumps. I think with some weight on it, it would be more stable.
These are all aluminum...
RE: gear used in SG units
Wouldn't that be an extremely heavy unit? I know that the M1061 trailer weighs in at 5,000 lbs. How much does the M109 body weigh?
I've thought about just using an S280 shelter on a flatbed trailer. Much lighter.
Adam:
Instead of trying to put a shelter in an M105, why don't you buy my Unimog radio box camper? It still has the desk and cabinets in it. You could remove the bed platform and add seating. It's really a nice unit, 5' high inside, 10' long, 7.5' wide. I mounted it on an M105A2 trailer...
The small blue arrow only brings you to the top of the page. I think most people want to go to the home page. It would be nice to have a link at the bottom of every page with the SS Logo to click home.
NWMF is just about a month away!!!
Anyone with a military vehicle is welcome to join our event. This is a family event which is held at the Waldersee Farm in Sheridan, Oregon. There are plenty of camping spots, porta potties, showers, an obstacle course, and food supplied by the local Boy...
When I had my expansible van body, the rails were tweaked a little bit. It's possible that your tracks may be slightly bent. They should open up quite easily with the tool provided to turn the ratchets.
Thanks Kenny...I know about the wheels. They are for the trip north. I'm pretty much full for that route. It's the trip south that I have a little space left.
There is a testing ground outside of Silver Springs, Nevada where they test tires for military and off road vehicles. The terrain looks very much like this. I've heard that they deliberately will swamp deuces and Unimogs in mud to see how well the tires perform.
UPDATE 7-10-08:
I still have room on my trailer. So far, I will be picking up some GP medium tents in Chesapeake, VA then Unimog tires and bed sides in Charlotte, NC. I'll have about 4'x6' of space.
I used to own a 1994 Mitsubishi FM-HD which is very similar in styling to the FMTV. It was a pleasure to drive that truck. Plenty of cab space, windshield visibility, leg room, head room, and super easy to back up because of the cabover design. I almost wish I didn't sell it. It had an 18'...
I have a friend who is taking her 3/4 ton full size pickup empty both ways from the Reno area to SoCal on the weekend of August 9. She is just trying to offset her fuel costs. If anyone needs something hauled and it will fit in a pickup, please send me a pm.
Thanks,
Mike
I'm making my annual trip to Northwest Mogfest again. I will be leaving NJ on August 14 and can haul anything along the PA Turnpike, I-70, I-81 or I-40 corridor. I'll go to my home in Nevada before heading to Portland, OR. My trailer is 14' long and has a payload of 6,000 lbs. I'll be empty...
RE: Re: RE: Deuce short comings
Kyle, there is no reason to modify the trailer plug since Mogs have NATO 12 pin plugs. However, you do have to move the pins on the trailer to accommodate for the turn signals because they are separate from the brake lights.
Also, there is no way that a Mite...
I'm making my trip within the next two weeks. I'll have enough space for a Jeep on the way from NJ to FL and then enough space for smaller items on the way back. The space on my trailer will be about 3'x6' for any small items.
