Two issues:
I've been using the search as always suggested by other members and when I do, I always get a lot of pages that come up. When I click on the page numbers or the next page at the bottom, it never takes me to that page. I just get an error message: No searches match your criteria...
RE: Dave
Nice looking truck. You will want to make sure that the axle seals don't start leaking when you use it. It's common for the seals to leak because these trucks may have sat on a base for a while. Lack of use is the worst thing for a Unimog or any large truck.
Good luck with your...
RE: Photos of jack use and placement
Ford trucks used to store the jack under the hood near the passenger fender. They would put the handle just in front of the radiator. It was nice not having it bounce around in the cab.
RE: Re: RE: NJ to FL, partially empty trailer
There is a possibility of going back north if I can get some loads but I probably won't have enough space on the trailer with the Champ already on it. Unless I can get a bigger trailer. Otherwise, I am making the trip from NJ to FL to my home in NV.
I will be making a trip from NJ to FL to pick up my Austin Champ within the next two weeks. I will have enough space for a Jeep (or other stuff comparable in size) on the way down.
My trailer is 14' long by 6' wide and I have about 12' of space for this trip. I can carry up to 6,000 lbs...
I was intrigued by the information. Growing up on the Jersey Shore, I remember when fishing was the mainstay for many locals. Over time, the waters were either fished out or polluted. It's nice to see that the work that is done by making artificial reefs pays off by creating more habitats for...
Thanks for chiming in Joe! I'm lousy with names. Also, I passed the place in Lamar...wow! That guy has expanded since I was through there two years ago.
KENNY: I've only visited Gene twice. Both times were to pick up loads. He's a really nice guy which only shows that most people from NJ are not jerks!
I also stopped at Rob Pickering's place in LaJunta, CO. He owns a recycling business and sells Unimogs.
BJORN: A couple photos of a Ford...
Hey Everyone....
The trip went smooth as silk. I had no problems whatsoever with the M1009, as usual. I picked up a load at Gene Pantano's place in Colorado Springs and then two more loads in Boone and Rocky Ford. While at Gene's place, I met a fellow SS member with his Suburban which he is...
Well, I've camped overnight in Moab, UT. Luckily, this campground has internet access. I met up with a bunch of Unimog owners who do, "Mogs at Moab" every year. They are all leaving this morning, heading home to Denver. I'll be heading southeast across Colorado to Pueblo. So far, no...
The second pic is the Swiss version. Usually much better maintained than other armies. The Swiss had the higher cab cover which is a dead giveaway. NEVER buy a French Mog!!! They were abused and not well maintained by the French military.
The S-280 is 12' long. The one Bjorn shows in the photo is 8' long.
Bjorn: Do a search on GL. I seem to recall that Hill AFB in Utah generally has a lot of shelters for sale.
The M1009 has the TH400 (no OD).
There wasn't a military version of the Suburban but mine is an ex-paramedic truck. 3/4 ton gasser, 16mpg. I plan on militarizing it though.
The M1009 mileage varies with terrain and the load. On the flats, unloaded, I get 16mpg. In the mountains with a...
David,
Tinted windows on the sides and rear. For the front, I just put up one of those cardboard sunscreens. I know what you mean about lights from truck stops or rest areas.
The nice thing about the partial platform is that I can sit on the bed (hunched over) and put my shoes on.
I picked up a canvas top for my Mite at Aberdeen. I was very lucky to meet Ron who came in from Tennessee. He only had Mite parts and only one top. His price was half that of the going rate so I got a great deal. I finally got it out to my home in Nevada and installed it. I already had the...
Well, this will be my fourth cross country trip in the M1009. This time, instead of using an air mattress, I've stuffed an extra long single mattress in the M1009. Like before, I built a platform to store milk crates underneath but because this is an extra long mattress, I had to remove the...
By the way, the larger seal pictured above will not fit. The inside diameter is too big. However, the outer diameter is the exact same size as the yoke so I would imagine it offers a better seal agains the yoke. The larger seal is for the 14 bolt rear but being that the parts store is 80...
