I had fuel that was over five years old in my tank and when we took the tank down and removed the fuel pump, the gunk fron all that algy and crud was like super glue. Nothing in the shop would cut it. We used xylene or xlyo to clean our hands and thought , why not? soaked the pump over night...
I seem to remember that there are flow restrictors built into the valve body. We were concerned about way back then but we were driving the M543 at the time and had just switched from the M62's so the memory may be a little fuzy so don't flame me too bad if I am wrong.
I still plow a lot of snow too. I also drove five tons during the winter back in the 60's through Europe. Yep, the cabs leak like a collender and the defrosters suck, and they are like riding in an old wagon. I plow highways from beginning to end and then run salt to clean up Nothing...
Yes, and XP works for me too. Another family member recently upgraded to a new machine and Windows 7 was included. I have never heard so much swearing out of an 80+ woman. This is the one who I am going to have to ask to help me when I eventually have to change over myself. I still can't even...
Thanks Paul, I put all the ickers info on a file. Now if I need to get it I can. In the meantime, I will put the one I got from Logan on the truck. Thanks
We have a restored M51 Dump that we are finishing up to bring to Gilbert to sell. Great running truck with a heater and commercial wheels and side boards so you can actually get some product in the body. We cut out any rust spots in the usual places and are getting ready for paint when the...
I have had problems with every airpac on every fiveton I have woned or had to work on for other guys. A lot of times it isn't the airpac but from all the sitting around that these trucks do before we get them as collectors. I usually wind up rebuilding the airpac then find ut that that isn't...
Sorry you missed it. The Gathering ran from Aug 3 to the 7th. It is a long ride for the trucks and their owners. Most of whom have commitments and or jobs to return to. The schedules are posted on SS and at the Vietnam guntruck site over on multiply. We are a gathering of brothers and...
Nice truck. I have one that we are restoring right now. Just some tin work and a paint job and it will be ready to go. Mine has side boards but not as tall as yours. They are off right now for paint but we will be re instaling them for the finished truck. Looks like you have a good load for...
Carlisle Truck show
We did have the Guntrucks there last year and I can tell you, they were well recieved. A lot of folks viewed the trucks and took pictures. We got a lot of kudos from the public and were featured with a drive through in the main stadium. That is a big show with a huge flea...
Brother Logan Werth sent me the power steering pump from the engine he blew up last Aug on the way home with Uncle Meat. He had to replace his engine and gave me the pump for my truck. We will be putting it in next week and then we need a road test. Doesn't look like we will make the gathering...
I did just as Recovry did. Adding spacers seems like the right modification. rather than cutting the top plate. I did it to two wreckers and a couple ring mount applications. Not addidng spacers prevent the soft top from fitting properly and rain and cold air rush in through that gap. I'm...
No rattle cans in this motorpool. Vinny did all the painting himself as well as cutting out some bad spots found in all the usual places. He is a good welder, mechanic, and it seems he is better with a spray gun than I am. He really did light a fire under our old tired butts. He is hard to keep...
I was thinking about putting an A3 duce Cat engine in a older M 54 but I went on the wrong thread. Any one here attempted that type of swap. We just rebuilt the multifuel engine and have the overdrive trans from an 800 seires in the truck but now that I have to drive by the limits of my pyro...
M35a3 in a five ton
I was just wondering about changing the A3 powerplant from the duce into an older M54. I was wondering if it would be worth the effort. I'm thinking that there would be enough room for everything that needs to suport the Cat engine and auto trans. I think maybe adapting...
Power Steering Pump needed
Hey guys, We are in need of a replacement power steering pump from a 5 ton Multifuel engine. Anyone parting out a five ton engine, I would like to hear from. Pretty soon would be better if we have any chance of making the Gathering in Aug. Thanks Vinny
Well, now that we know it is a problem, Anyone have any leads on one? The shaft broke clean and had no noticeable flaws It also seems to have falied while driving down a relatively straight road for quite some distance, no hard turns or rough road. Now we need to replace it before we can think...
We went up to Ft Drum last weekend and lost the power steering in my five ton M-54, When we got back to the farm, we took it all apart and discovered the shaft between the drive gear and the pump motor had sheared off. The shaft is a good hslf inch thick. There is no other damage except the...
