does the 6.2 need backpressure ?

The convo is about short exhaust pipes or stacks on an engine & having cooling air rush back up into the pipes when the motor is shut off... the cam has zero affect on a stopped engine. 'Tanner'

    6.2 to 727 adapter??

Talk to these guys... http://www.jeepinpnw.com/files/jpbhsgs.pdf Look at page 15 for the early Jeep ('76-'79) Torqueflite 727 to 350 Chevy small-block - call them & see what they can offer you. They also have a kit to adapt a Chevy motor to the International Scout 727 trans - same trans...

What are hard to find parts for a CUCV?

Hardest thing to find? Someone that wants to work on one? :D 'Tanner'

does the 6.2 need backpressure ?

Ahhh, yes... the mythical 'short exhaust pipes burn valves' story... If there were any truth to this story, then every piston-powered warbird from WW1 & 2 would have toasted/bent valves, as would straight-piped Harleys & V8 car motors used in dragboats that utilize unmuffled header pipes, etc...

does the 6.2 need backpressure ?

Engines DO need a small bit of back-pressure in the exhaust system for optimum performance & exhaust scavenging... not so much that you kill flow, but then again, a 6.2 is not a high-revving, high exhaust flow motor like a 7000rpm Honda engine. You're looking for a balance in the piping to...

    American LaFrance Auction

All I know is that I haven't been getting any return calls from anyone at ALF/Golan, Etc., when I've left messages... The facility is/was also making refuse/garbage trucks, last I heard... IIRC, the fire truck side of the house moved back up to PA. (again, the last I heard...) 'Tanner'

A M37 that could go BOOM!!!!!

Nice work VT! Looks like you'll have a blast with the truck when it's completed! (sorry, someone had to say it - might as well have been me) :-) 'Tanner'

    American LaFrance Auction

From having worked on the Golan & Alpha programs as a supplier, I can tell you that what you'd be buying is a rolling bucket-load of problems... That being said, if you're interested in owning a Wisconsin trailer queen, then - by all means - bid away... 'T'

    Stacks possible?

Get Cletus & Bo at your local muffler shop to install a stack or dual stacks on the truck & when your friends & neighbors tell you that it looks like a$$, take it off, spend the money again with Cletus & Bo and have them install the normal exhaust system... Or maybe you're looking to get the...

    New 6.2 power plant

GM was working on a 4.5 liter '4500 Duramax' with the exhaust & turbo in the center of the valley & intakes in top portion of heads... made for a smaller engine package that would fit where the current 'small-block' Chevrolet gasser engine would fit. Power ratings were minimum of 310HP / 520...

    CUCV mod and hot rodding.

Hmmm... How much 'hot-rodding' can you do to a CUCV if you can't get it to crank, or get the generator to gen, or remove the glow plugs without using a cutting torch or C4, or keep the block in one homogeneous piece, or keep the moving parts of a TH400 inside the case & functioning, or keep...

    ATF mixed with diesel

ATF has been found to work best in... automatic transmissions. Period. All I ever hear is anecdotal evidence regarding how people ran 8 million miles on diesel mixed with ATF, or the engine loosened up, or ran smoother, or the 'butt-dyno' said I was making 18% more power, or... Where is the...

M1009 max load out and towing

You can tow until something blows - in this case, the transmission is the typical 'fusible link' - the TM more than likely lists 1200 lbs towed to keep the 'idiot factor' reduced... there'll always be some idiot out there that chooses to overload the rig & wreck it - Is there a sticker in the...

    Confused on Towing

And the load will 'wag the dog' in a K5/1009 if you aren't careful... the short wheelbase of the 1009 compounds out-of-balance loads in windy driving conditions & panic stops. This is why UHaul for years would not install hitches on CJ-5 Jeeps & other short wheelbase trucks. Look into using the...

M1009 max load out and towing

Quick check on 'net says the following: "The M1009 was rated for a 1,200 pound payload and a 3,000 pound towed load." This link says 1200-1500 lb payload with 3k pound towed load... TRUCK, UTILITY, 3/4 TON, 4X4 M-1009 If you tow 3k, you're going to want a braked trailer; short wheelbase on...

    top end tapping

He could have an injector hammering, rod knock, broken rings, bent rod, etc... Without an engine teardown or dropping the pan, only Superman knows for sure - it may be 'engine time'. Look around - there seem to be a lot of non-starting CUCV's around for cannibalizing... 'Tanner'
