What 5 gallon jerry can will fit the old style brackets and where can I buy some? I cannot bring myself to pay $100 a piece as I need 5 for my M116a2 generator trailer. I bought some new NATO cans that will not fit. They have a squarish bottom and seam.
Will the newer plastic military ones...
It's very seldom a positive cash investment to restore a piece of history. You end up paying more out than you will ever get back. You can always donate a MV to a museum for a tax write off for more than you can ever sell one for. I have the only M1009 for events in West TN. Our local museum...
Museum curator and local MVPA president in picture, and two other MVPA members helped me cover the nose up. That alone gave it a better look. Working from the nose back it patching her up. Dedicating at least one one day a month to it, I'm expecting to be completed in about 18 months. All...
Before and current pictures. Museum and local MVPA members have assisted me in reviving the old girl. Still have a lot to do.
Been working on it for about a year now.
Amazing what an old disabled Huey mechanic can get done with fellow MV enthusiast.
1st work was to raise money to pour a cement...
I bought a spare starter for my M1009 and it's the smaller gear reduction style too. I had the same issue and I was thinking I had a starter going bad since it would do the same thing now and then. Click/clunk but would start unless I moved the flywheel by hand. But turned out to just be a...
Would this hub work? It appears to use the same bearings.

I have a M1009 and it would be nice to just carry one spare tire instead of two.
Anyone know if a 12x2 drum would work?
I bought a new starter for a similar problem, but discovered a bad connection on the firewall TB was the culprit before it came in. So now I have a new starter in my spare parts box. You really have to keep an eye on all those battery connections.
In the 1st Gulf War we tossed a Duce/5 ton pioneer Kit in our M1009s and M1008s just like during training. Rack and all. Last thing in and 1st thing off. But got smart and eventually a lot of people just tied the rack to the front grill. Yes the tools got sand blasted a lot. But they were paint...
Funny you mentioned that. When I blew a #2 belt, the meter dropped just slightly. Was still in green. With red #2 light on. Few months later I had #1 belt go with same result. Meter dropped slightly and #1 light came on. When both belts broke, both lights came on and meter went to no out put. I...
Okay, aside from a lot of dirty contacts, that messed up when the printed CB was disturbed; there are two differing styles of plugs holding the gen 1&2 bulbs in. One is black and one is grey. The grey one takes gorilla strength and the black one goes in and out with a positive lock. I did not...
Went and checked the 10 amp fuse. It's good and reads 27.1 VDC going through, just like under the hood (checking both batteries together). Still too cold to work outside very long today.
PS Had I not messed with the printed circuit board; I would not be going through all this. But in all honesty, that baby needed to be cleaned up under there real good anyway. PMs from members, reading other threads, and this thread have really helped. Will update next weather break on progress. Tnx
Well, I've gotten real good at disconnecting the speedo cable and removing that printed circuit board now. LOL Good news it's clean and works when not fully installed, but one gen bulb is still not working when fully installed. Of course another set of bad weather has impeded my progress again...
I took out my speedometer and replaced it because the needle broke. After doing so the Gen 1&2 lights do not light up when key is turned on. I checked voltage at alternators 1&2, both putting out 14.5VDC. Check batteries and front battery is getting 14.5VDC but rear battery is only showing...
PS During Desert Shield we painted all the woodland cammo vehicles with a slurry made from dirt and water in a 30 gallon trash can and applied with a broom. Although many Hummers were painted plain desert tan before departing the states, I did not see any 101st CUCVs in desert tan. In fact we...
