Just a FYI. I went to replace my wiper motor and turns out its one of the parts you have to get for model year 1983. They changed by 1986 for the civilan K5 Blazer.
I had an odd issue like that on my M1009 right tail light that turned out to be the socket. It looked okay but as I was further troubleshooting, a socket connector piece fell out. Make sure you double check the socket itself. Just a thought.
I think you may be right about the plastic part. That is a key I have that fits many CUCVs. And mine until I switched mine out after my ignition switch gave out.
I know in 1985 our units CUCV keys had the plastic on them. But I was in West Germany, and they may of been copies. Not original. I...
Biggest thing is just making sure you check for leaks along the way. I had my M1009 on its 1st long trip and the radiator sprung a leak. Radiator looked good and fluid was clean. But it was 30 years old to. I used stop leak to slow the flow until I got it back home. Also, it is rather loud being...
I live in Memphis and belong to the Midsouth MVPA that meets at the Military Museum in Atoka. Same location as McFarlands Gun Shop. I bought my M1009 from Steve, off Atoka- Idaville rd. that restores CUCVs as a side hobby. He does a nice job in restoring them to a daily driver, while keeping the...
Nice MV. In the military, it was amazing how many times I found a leak from loose bolts. But we did drive hard in rough conditions a lot. I wish I had room for a toy that big.
Thanks BudMan. Thats some great data.
I will make sure that data is displayed with it at the museum.
Been too hot to do much work these last two months. But should be back at it soon. Working on the damaged right sync elevator right now. As smaller parts fit in my air-conditioned shed.
We...
Correct, its the short 204 series.
We think it spent its whole life in the states. But I did see pictures of this model Marine chopper in Vietnam.
Any additional info would be great.

On our Hueys we used AN/ARC-131 and -54 FM radios. The tail FM radio antenna base had a remote cable connection like the 1729. One day we were replacing the antenna base with a new one that did not have the plug for changing the frequency to match the radio. When I back checked the data in the...
I love my MV and would never swap it out for a fire truck, but the kid in all of us will always be attracked to a fire truck. Its just something that we all thought was the coolest as a kid and if I could justify it, id buy a fire truck too. LOL Great pics! Thanks for sharing.
In my case it was the sockets themselves were not the correct ones. Although they did work for awhile. They were grey in color and I swapped them out with the correct sockets. No problem since. Stick with stock sockets.
Just finished installing an RT524 using a AS3900/A instead of the AS1729 antenna. Although I have no way to actually check it out for functionality. I did try and transmit in low power with an AM radio within 6" from the antenna and it appears to be putting out power. Im thinking the antenna...
Driving my M1009 as a daily driver under best conditions.

with M116 trailer loaded down 12 mph combined
i carry and use a club on my steering wheel when in a higher threat area. That way it does not modify the vehicle permanently. Although I have taken a friend with me on occasion to stand guard in the highest threat areas, i try to avoid them whenever possible.
I had my service lights not work and it was the from the fuses being slightly corroded. Took all of tem out and cleaned with a pencil eraser until I could pick up some new fuses. When you change out the fuses make sure to get quality fuses. Fuses that have the two small openings on the top where...
