Some movment is normal, If it goes all over the place check the ground wire for the sending unit. You used to be able to go to the GM dealership and till them the tire size they could give you a difftent gear for the spedo cable at the transfer case.

Wow that sucks,I hope your luck changes quick. Can you hook up some type of gauge to the air compressor and see if it is making any psi. I had a batt due that and found that the cable end was not tight and pop on start up.
