What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Installed a class III hitch locally, did the wiring myself then went straight out to rent a trailer and haul 5 yards a gravel and mulch to the yard... I removed the pintle hitch awhile ago. Earlier in its life it was hit pretty hard, hard enough to bend it to the left and jamb up the...

    1984 m1009 CUCV rebuild

Crash - The console itself is 9 inches wide, about 28 inches in overall length, and just about a foot tall (at the very front). The floorplate sits about an two and a half inches above the transmission hump.

    1984 m1009 CUCV rebuild

Natemccabe - yes in the picture it does look as if it would be awkward. It really isn't though. From the drivers side, it is easy to get to and the knob on the top of the shifter is several inches from the console once in 4wheel drive. This consoles rests on a heavy steel plate that is...

    M1009 Headlight problem.

Wow, that was one of those "just fiddle with it" solutions that I didn't see coming. You're right, probably a good idea to replace that one! Well done!

    Rear Disc Brakes

I have heard of the auto trans park setting slipping on some older vehicles. That just worries me. They should call the parking brake the worry brake. I use that thing alot. Maybe I watched too many episodes of CHiPs. Its getting loose and rusty...will have to add that to the list of things...

    M1009 Trip Report (MPG)

I have the same speedometer as Mainsail! Sometimes it does settle down and stop waving, but it is always about 10 mph faster than the real speed (according to GPS).

    1984 m1009 CUCV rebuild

The console is a Troy Products model, not sure which but I can find out from my receipts later. I scooped up out of the dumptster where i work. It had a rough life in several law enorcement or fire vehicles. I had it powdercoated and then i bought the faceplates, cupnolder and lockbox. A friend...

    M1009 Headlight problem.

I agree with Makers, last year I replaced the headlight switch with one from Napa. As I recall, same thing, only the headlights were out, all else was fine. Come to think of it, there have been many odd lighting issues that seemed to be resolved with replacing the headlight switch. They...

Temperature Gauge and Oil Gauge install question

For clarification, member Howey posted a picture of the temperature gauge sending unit on the left side of the water pump. This picture is really clear and helpful...many thanks to Howey! http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?93727-m1009-gauge-installation/page3 I spent Easter with the...

Temperature Gauge and Oil Gauge install question

Thanks for the photos, good stuff! The other access spot is on the passenger side of the water pump at about 10 o'clock as if your standing in front of it. Mine is so covered in goo, I almost couldn't find it.

Temperature Gauge and Oil Gauge install question

Good call, you should see the goo that is all over that extra spot on the water pump for Temperature sensor...yikes, gonna need a gallon of marine clean for that one! If I get that one done, I'll take pictures and advise. I'm a little worried that the plug there won't come out too well. After...

It has been awhile since I started this thread. Lots has been added, just took me a long time to do it! I'l try to stay in chronological order, but it's all starting to melt together... Proof that everything works - family trip to retrieve a Christmas tree - Mission accomplished! Stage one...

Temperature Gauge and Oil Gauge install question

Thanks Camogriz, I had heard it was a remove and replace deal. There have been other situations where I have pulled one thing and two others were unhappy about it...! It's what makes this things fun I suppose. The Cold Advance circuit was my main concern. Here is where the Oil Pressure...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Not bad, looks smooth and consistent. The pic makes it look sort of light green. How did the rolling or brushing on go?

Temperature Gauge and Oil Gauge install question

Ok, so I have been browsing lots of threads using the above and other combinations in the search function and have not come up with an answer. Maybe I am reading too much into the tech manual schematics but here goes the question anyway... Looking at F-3 engine compartment ignition circuit’s...

Finally titled and registered in OR, no emissions test (too old) and 45 minutes in line at DMV. All set!

    M1009 stereo install headache

I've used the top two single slots on the far left, as seen in the attachment from galeo7171. It's activated by the ignition switch, so when the key is off - no power. Recently, i've been working on a fuse panel that is activated by this single fuse slot. This link...
