Bill,
I'd seen your trailer before and, quite frankly, that is where I got the idea for mine. Your's looks smaller--which I'd rather have. But, you work with what you got! I wish I had the ASK for mine. Does it make a big difference in noise?
Steve
Installed the genset this afternoon. I think it turned out pretty good considering I can't weld. This will sure make moving it around a lot easier. I have the genset center of gravity just forward of the axle center. Like this the tongue weight is pretty light. Waste not, want not.
Excess parts from a M104 genset trailer. I got the tongue, axle, tires, and all the small parts. I bought some box steel to make a little trailer that would hold my extra Mep003. So far it's coming along well. I still need to bolt a tie-in plate between the tongue and frame. It measures...
The stop bolts on my "M1008" front axle are not of equal length. The driver's side is 1.5 inches extended, and the passenger's side is 0.75 inches. If I pull the bolts out and turn right as far as I can, the knuckle will only get to within 1.5 inches of the axle housing. But, if I turn it left...
Jason,
Sorry it has been such a hassle. I'm glad you got the 101 registered. I've had problems with vehicles AND trailers at the FLDMV. I always hold my breath when I go in there. I sure like the tool trailer. If you ever want to sell it, let me know.
Steve
The mep003 is rated just over 100 amps (like 102 or something). My service into the house I live in is 100 amp (old house). When I test run my Mep003 every 3 months, I plug it into the house, run it, and turn just about everything on in my house at the same time (AC/oven/stove/dryer/washer...
How could the axle be moved? The spring pins are in the axle indexes. Could someone tell me if the hole in the Dana 60 on M1008s for the steering stabilizer is completely perpendicular to the ground? Mine isn't. Maybe this is where it got tweeked.
I'll check the bolts at the box. Mkcoen, kingpins have no perceivable play when I do this test. No additional pull on braking--actually the drift disappears when I brake (ie it goes straight). I've rotated the tires too.
Vinny,
No worries. I thought someone would do it. I really don't SEE any bending in the tie rod. But, I suppose it could be tweaked just enough to cause the drift. Anybody? What about the kingpins? They feel real tight, but I suppose they could need a rebuild. Anybody know how to verify...
I got my blazer stuck on concrete debris in a ravine couple weekends ago. I never made it to the end of the trail. Ended up backing out-limping home. Anyway, the truck drifts right pretty hard now. If I don't hold the wheel left--it will go right. I noticed when I got home that the steering...
Good story. You should write a book. I know you were frustrated, but it seemed to me you had some good luck the entire way. Breaking down within a half mile of a parts store. FINDING some parts that actually fit, fixing it and getting home. Nice story though! and nice trailer too.
I needed a bearing for my Dana 60 and called around with the Timken number. One of the local auto parts places had it in stock. I asked what brand the bearing was. He said Federal Mogul. Okay, I figure it's good. Get there and sure as shootin' it's embossed with "made with china". Crap...
Kenny's right as usual. I had the EXACT same problem with my deuce. Adjust the free play to 1/2 inch. Push the brake pedal with your finger until it reaches the bottom of its free play. Scribe a mark on the pedal arm inside the cab at the floor board with a piece of chalk. Release the pedal...
Got a new master cylinder for my Blazer. Routed hoses from the ports into the reservoirs to bench bleed it. When I pushed the piston in, fluid would spurt out of the closest reservior hole (the one in at the bottom of the reservoir). I pumped that thing for 30 minutes and no change. The front...
