My muffler needs to be replaced on the 818, the flange has removed itself from the muffler. Was thinking of eliminating the stock muffler and going with a stack version. Seems this would help it breathe better, and might actually increase the power slightly.
So to those that have done this...
Here is a pic of the 818 head to head with my m35a2c, makes the deuce look like a pickup!
I cant believe it took me this long to buy a 5-ton, I am hooked and will probably be selling the deuce and a couple cucvs to make room for another 5-ton!rofl
Only issue so far is the tach not working...
I have finally joined the 5-ton club! :D
Brought my new toy home today, a 1970 M818 that has only 4k miles showing since 2002 depot rebuild. And judging by the looks of her I would say that the mileage is correct.
Thanks to member treessw, who let me "steal" her from him. He had just finished...
This is how the Air Force solved the bad relay problem in my '86 M1009. Guess they never heard of the DH mod?
Cant tell by the pic but the plug and the 2 wires experienced a definite "meltdown". At least the truck came with a new starter!
Saw an interesting 813 for sale on a site I cant mention. Wanted to share some pics to see if anyone has seen anything like it. Here is part of the description:
Looks like 1 diffrential feeds 2 sets of final drives??? Anyone know anything about this, or seen anything similar?
The "no drive off" rule at Camp Shelby must apply only to the larger trucks so far. We were down there last week picking up a couple of M1009s, and drove one off no questions asked. They even slaved it off for us, so we didnt have to swap out the batteries on there lot.
Did perform a safety...
Still no luck finding the 88k number, but thanks to your info I was able to find out the serial number is: 1040-11342.
Now I can request the SF97! :jumpin:
I see this stated in the auctions for the 900 series trucks, but not the m1009s. Wonder if they will still let you drive cucv's off since they are smaller and less of a hazard than a big 5 ton truck.
Thanks for the info, will check after work tomorrow. It is not stenciled on the door, so hopefully will find it on the frame. Was wondering how I was going to title it with no serial number.
And here are a few more pics. Will do an in depth inspection when I get the time to see if any other problems exist, but so far I am very happy with her!:)
