How do deuces converted to a 4X4 configuration do offroad? I'm considering dropping an axle but I wouldn't bob it. Looking at the original rear design the axles can oscillate all over the place. If you run a front spring setup in the rear won't it force the frame to twist more or bottom a...
OK, I've checked the lube order and other manuals and haven't found the exact answer. On the driver's side there are three plugs, top, 1/3 from bottom, and bottom. Obviously the bottom is the drain. I assumed the top was fill and the side was the full enough plug. When I pulled my side plug...
My passanger glass is busted. I got the frame off the truck and it looks like the top hinge should pop off to get to the glass. It doesn't want to move and I'm afraid of messing up the frame. Am I on the right track?
I went to get my deuce from Camp Ripley today. Fairly uneventful. Two hours up, 15 minutes tops in the motorpool, three hours back. It popped right off, 1/2 tank of fuel, drives pretty nice.
My only concern is it ran 200-215 degrees all the way home. At first I slowed down a bit but once...
I found some bar stock at work in the scrap bin and am going to make my own adapters. Can someone with adapters like these get me the two dimensions? I need the distance between the red and blue lines.
Sorry you'll have to click on the file. I can't convert it to a jpeg and keep my markups...
I'm thinking of converting my bed to a dump. What is the weight of a std bed? I might be doing a crewcab conversion later this summer so the bed will end up being 8' to 9' once I'm done. I also have a line on a free hoist but haven't gotten to look it over and determine it's capacity.
OK I give up. I've spent 30 minutes looking for the bolt pattern specs for the deuce. What are they please. I've got a couple of ideas for wider rims and have a possible contact at a wheel mfg. We sell to the otherside of the company at work so they should give me the time of day.
I'm going to look at a deuce this weekend. It's a tanker, not 100% sure but it should be an M49 fuel tanker. If the tanker body is in decent shape is it worth an even trade for a std deuce bed? The price is right but I have zero interest in the tanker. The deal won't be very good if I have...
We had a multifuel 5 ton dump when I first joined the Army. I swear it had 4th and 5th gear in the right spot, 4 up and 5 down. It always caught me off guard shifting the trans in the M817's we had too. Am I crazy or do some of the 5 speeds have a normal shift pattern versus the swapped 4th...

Found this on Craig's list. I live about 10 miles away if anyone is seriously interested and needs a set of eyes on it.
They also have a LARC for sale if you go to their main page.
What are the main changes that would make a difference in looking for a deuce? Let's assume similar condition, rust, wear, etc. I already understand the following.
gas vs diesel (non-turbo vs C vs D turbos)
direct vs OD trans
Sprag vs air shift T case
Normally newer is better but if I find a...

Talked to the guy. Used it to pull people out at his mud bog track. A chain punched the radiator during a tow and overheated the engine enough to make the head gasket leak.
A couple more things I remembered. He has had it for three years...
I saw a 10 ton in the local truck trader today. It's just been sold to someone in MN. It supposedly was an M125 with front winch and still a gas engine. The bed looks to be off a deuce or 5 ton but the front winch alone is a find.

I've found a deuce I'm going to go look at. It has a winch but supposedly the shear pin was replaced with a bolt and whatever let go in that area punched a hole in the bottom of the case. Does this sound salvagable at all?
What does w/o winch vs w/w (broken) vs w/w working effect the value...
I'm new here. After about a year of thinking what type of vehicle I want to get for a hobby I landed on the deuce. I've been in the Army Reserves for 22 years so far. Never really messed with them. Always drove 5 tons and larger. I've always liked to be a little different and an MV gives me...
