    Spin on oil filter kit

The deuce's cartridge oil filters are in parallel, not series. That means the oil flow from the pump is split into two equal paths: One goes through one filter, and the other goes through the other filter. That means that they provide a total filter capacity that is twice that of each...

Just got a Deuce from GL...

Hi Ray, I was only going into the mechanism for getting a refund because fuzzy asked. I avoid filing for a refund because I am pretty sure that would be giving the state a license to come after me for anything I might have, uhmmm, forgotten to pay. I do know of folks that have done it in...

Just a rant and some info

Yeah, but all that oil picks up sand and grit like there is no tomorrow. And the guy that slips while walking on the fender is very likely to be you. -Chuck

Ok, It's all about money, and your state's desire to get as much for itself as possible. All states have a department set up to go after, and collect, sales taxes paid by its residents to other states. States that don't collect sales and use taxes will just refund those amounts to the...

GL will charge sales tax if the state the property is in has a sales tax (unless you have a sales tax license on file with them). If your state doesn't charge sales tax for vehicles, you can apply to your state's sales and use tax division for a refund. The paperwork is generally available on...

    Broke your motor from WMO?

Both Viton, and Kalrez are DuPont fluoroelastomers. That means they both contain fluorine in their chemical structure. They both would be a problem after they burn. On the bright side, because of the fluorine, they are very hard to burn. -Chuck

    Broke your motor from WMO?

One small warning relative to viton: If you ever come across a viton O-ring that has burned, DO NOT TOUCH IT! Viton is an excellent product made with fluorine, but when it burns, it turns into some very nasty stuff. Fluorine products have an affinity for calcium (hence fluoride in...

Just got a Deuce from GL...

One thing: If you are nice to the yard guy at GL, he might be willing to let you snag a new drive line from one of the deadlined deuces on the lot... not one up for auction, but some of the debris from refused and or seriously broken deuces. They all have a scrap pile somewhere. -Chuck

    Broke your motor from WMO?

The gasoline is there to thin the fuel so that it can get out of the tank and through the filters. Gasoline is harder to ignite in a diesel engine than diesel fuel. It is only because of the MF engine's 22.5:1 compression ratio that gasoline can be burned. -Chuck

    Green brake fluid???

The purple dye in DOT5, and BFS, is not very stable. Heat, moisture, time, ??? seem to cause it to fade to a yellow color. If the green stuff doesn't mix with water, and it does mix with DOT5, than it should be OK with DOT5...assuming it is brake fluid, that is. Can you give us a picture? I...

    Broke your motor from WMO?

Sorry, no. Distillate fuel is short for Petroleum Distillate fuel. It is just heavy fuel oil, such as would be used in a boiler, or furnace. It is also used in locomotives, and some stationary engines. -Chuck

Just got a Deuce from GL...

GL very strongly encourages you to inspect before you buy. During that inspection is when you should be able to find if your truck has gauges, or runs. I had one of the worst cases of buyers remorse right after I bought my truck. It extended up until I drove her into my driveway and parked...

Just got a Deuce from GL...

Let's not forget that the air pressure gauge is plumbed directly to the air supply. If they removed it you won't be able to build air pressure for your brakes, or to turn off the low air pressure alarm. -Chuck

Why GL Deuces have no Brakes

Hi Eric, You certainly won't get any argument from me about the vent. It is a very wrong idea. I think it fits in the category of: When all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail. They had tons of the little bobble head vents from the axles, T-cases, and transmissions, so when they...

Why GL Deuces have no Brakes

It is probably way too late to blow that whistle. First we would have to show that the government was in some way harmed by this "problem" ... that would involve extensive study of repair records, collision reports, product specifications, and of course, interviewing mechanics, contracting...

    Deuce and www.steelsoldiers.com on SurvivalBlog

I easily am "stocked up" to that degree. I keep fuel for the cars, and generator...usually. Clean water to drink and cook, sort of clean water to flush the toilets, a pantry full of food of all sorts, a freezer full of the rest... I have all manner of clothing and temporary shelters, I keep...

    Mysterious brake fluid loss

The skid pan under the air pack can hold quite a puddle of brake fluid... especially if it has a generous dollop of dirt in it. -Chuck

    one good load of wood

Hi Bobski, In Maryland, we seem to be getting hit hard by the pine beetles. I have lost all but one or two of the few large pine trees on my farm. I just finished (3-4 years ago) replanting another farm in Virginia with a genetically altered loblally pine, and I am quite worried that the...

    one good load of wood

Cool! I presumed it must be something like that. But no one ever seemed to say, so I got curious. Thanks for the information. -Chuck

    one good load of wood

Wood comes from trees? Imagine that! I was just curious. I keep hearing tales, on the board, of going out into the woods and coming back with truck loads of firewood, but I never hear whose woods, or why that's ok.. My G'paw lost about $80,000 (in todays dollars) of hardwood over one winter...
