I concur. I've put about 6,000 miles on my Bobber with 53's.
I run 40psi in the front and 35psi in the rear and the wear pattern and handling is perfect.
I've got one already flipped...too bad your so far away. It was on the front of a deuce. It is WAY TOO big in my opinion. I put one on the rear, makes more sense.
...A YEAR LATER. I've made a lot of pulls with this winch, everything is working perfectly. Bent one wheel by pulling it sideways and the tail pipe was smashed and is now shorter...
I had full hydro, and what a joke that was. If it was a trail rig only that would be fine, but full hyrdo driving down the road is asking to get pulled over for drunk driving.
Your the first I've heard say that. I did suspect it though, and that's why I've resisted full hydro. Still...
I'm not sure how common or expensive the early 5 ton steering box is, I've never seen one before. I was snooping around for dash parts for my 58 GMC LCF and I noticed the drivers side fender was missing on this old 5 ton . The steering box was staring me in the face. It looked like it might...
I think your referring to the box that bolts on to the outside of the frame.
This one ( early one? ) sits on top of the frame rail and looks like it has as much tire clearance as the stock set up.
I managed to get the whole enchilada, bell crank, drag links, tie rods, box, pump, lines, steering wheel, frame, front axle, everything. A LOT of steering gear is what I need for these big a** 53's.
I guess I'm wondering why it hasn't been done already.
I've watched him develop his kit. Great job, great price. A steering box on the outside of the frame rail won't work with 53's. The tire will hit the box on a right hand turn.
I do have one and I am going to try it. I was fishing for anyone that may have tried it and run into an issue. I haven't had the trucks side by side yet but if it will bolt to the M35 frame in the same manner it's bolted to the 5 ton, it looks like a piece of cake...and that's a big IF
I think I remember reading "it's too big" and "it can't be done". What about the type of power steering that sits on top of the frame, behind the axle, with only the drag link and bell crank on the outside of the frame? I didn't have a camera to take pictures of it. looks like an early 5 ton...
hook a brother up. I was "twisting up" my M35 in some rough stuff and twisted the shroud right off the radiator. What I need help with is who in Phoenix or Tucson to send the radiator to for repair.
Thanks,
Greg
would you happen to know of a longer pitman arm that would work or be modified to work on the stock steering box? I need one about 2 1/2 inches longer than stock. I've got a 2 1/2 inch spring lift and a longer pitman arm would level the Garrison drag link and work better with "hydra-assist" as...
