I know I skipped the "weight" part in your quote ([thumbzup]), if you are not only trying to replicate the look & feel of the gun box but also the methods used to assemble one, you may have to bite the proverbial bullet and go with steel on this...
Find this interesting. Are you saying that if I want to build a copy of "OTTO" for example and there's another guy out there already building a replica of OTTO, I can't build my "OTTO"? Is there a governing body on guntruck building or does to many OTTOs spoil a rally? I'm curious to know...
Really? I would have thought that stuff (in the thickness you'd need) would have been really expensive. As for getting paint to stick, guess you could rough up the surface a bit with sand paper or media blast it.
I don't know, the "visable gun box" could take it's place...
Although it would be really expensive, how about plexiglass/lexan/poly carbonate stuff? You could make the "visable gun truck" -an educational tool for all those who've ever wondered what was inside one of those vehicles......:lol...
My Ferret a Mk.1/2, is 00EA85. Spent most of it's life w/ BAOR although there is evidence that it might has also paid a visit to the desert. Units it served with were the 5th squadron Royal Engineers (made contact w/ former driver) 4th field regt. Royal artillery & 7th feild regt. Royal horse...
How to get into Military Jeeps? Well, I like to enter through the driver's side cut out... Sorry I couldn't resist...
I noticed a rather nice (uncut) M151A2 for sale in the classifieds. That's a good price for a running uncut mutt. Here's the link...
Don't know what to tell you about fair market value when it comes to a Dragoon APC. What I can tell you is that they used the axles from the 800 series 5 tons and the (gas?) engine out of an early M113 (tracked) APC. I know there's a dragoon owner who posts over on the g503 and he may actually...

I know what you mean. It certainly looks like it was a lot of work just getting to the point that we see in the photos. Hull kind of looks like it's just sitting there on top of the 5 ton's frame and would come off if they went around a corner too quickly. Still...
Hey
I was going to post this in the "5 ton mod" forum but thought that it really didn't fit so then I was going to post it in the "Conversations" forum until I found the "guntrucks" forum which is probably where this belongs.
I was originally looking at images of M923 trucks (to see what one...

You may be stuck between a rock & a hard place when it comes material selections for this project. The aluminum is going to be lighter but more expensive while the steel being less expensive, will be much heavier. I've heard of some of these gun truck" tributes"...
Think it would be kind of hypocritical of me to try and talk someone out of this as I own a Ferret Mk.1/2 (00EA85). What I would advise is to throughly do your research on the particular MV (or anything, for that matter) that you plan to buy. There's one of those for sale south of me that I...
I don't know what they are selling that Saracan for but, you could buy three or four of them for the price of a single V100. I really like the US stuff as well but it's just way out there price wise. Like most on this thread, I've had the opertunaty to buy one but passed for already stated...
Wow that's some project. Thanks for posting the images. Always thought tanks in general looked kind of cool w/o their turrets mounted. The British towards the end of WWII started doing that to the Stuarts in their fleet. They replaced the turret with an M49 ring mount and a machine gun. Turning...
Not sure what it would cost but how about aluminum? you could use relatively thick sheets of it which would give rigidty and the appearance of "heavy armor plate" w/o all the weight. Not sure what aluminum is going for these days. Another advantage is that it is metal and won't have a wood...

Try contacting Maddawg308 on this site. He was building an M37 guntruck and had the plates already fab'd up. He'd know the thickness and be able to answer your question.

"Short tracked vehicle pulling a short tracked trailer" was more then likely a Swedish built (by volvo) BV206. here's a link;
