Rear axel seal step by step

Depends on how much you want to replace. If you just want to stop the gear oil, you should only need an Outer Seal, a keyed washer, and something to plug the keyway. I used cork from a Chevy small block valve cover gasket and some black RTV. You will most likely need to repack the bearings, so...

Typical cost to recover a deuce?

From my experience, if all goes well; you'd be safe to say $800-1000 and then be happy when it only costs $600! Make sure you consider food, lodging, and time. If your hoping to buy a running truck, buy a trailer or another goodie you can tow back and make the trip more worth while.

    March 13th Redstone Recovery

Are your trucks on base or at the NG Armory? I have a m1009 at the Armory that I need checked out. I just need some photos of the inside and the tires.

So, my rear main seal toast?

You don't need an impact gun for any of this. A 1/2" ratchet and sockets will do the work. Removing the oil pan will allow you to inspect the crank and the bearings which may yield answers to your other symptoms. Autozone torque wrench ~ $30

So, my rear main seal toast?

I can attest that changing the rear main is not that technical, messy for sure, but not rocket science. I just did mine on my m1009 yesterday. It had the rope seal and was leaking heavily. It does require a good deal of patience, plenty of tools including a torque wrench with foot lbs for the...

    Floor mats?

We removed everything we could unbolt or unscrew, including the black kick panel you mention. We did not remove the rear seat belts for fear the bolt heads would strip. They are in there to stay! I sanded the black kick panel and seat bases, then painted them satin black. The satin black...

    Floor mats?

I used 2 gallons of Plasti-kote, bought from Wal-mart on my m1009. Cost around $120 with extra brushes. Take out the seats and spend a day brushing it in. You wont be disappointed. Just make sure you scuff the factory paint and remove any grease, oil, or fuel from the surface as it will bubble...

Steel Soldiers 2009 Florida Rally media thread

Here are a few photos that I took today. None of the trucks being mine, go figure. I took my m1009 and stayed out of the mud, maybe next year I'll get dirty!

    Engine oil pressure

jimm1009 - Did you ever figure out what was wrong? I have the same exact problem in one of my trucks and already changed the sending unit. Mine came with no markings as well and my problem persists. Idle pressure reading at 52-57 PSI. I haven't driven it again yet since changing the sender, but...

    extra loud ping/detonation

Bad fuel? I recently had a problem with some bad diesel from a small station off the interstate. I thought my engine was getting ready to fall apart. Luckily, it was only 3 gallons. I put some fresh off road in once I got home and within 10 minutes of driving she sounded purty again.

    Looking for a tow bar.

Austin's medium tow bars do not have the feet with 1" pin holes. Last I checked, they either had no feet or had feet with 3/4" pin holes. Not sure on the large tow bars. From shopping around for tow bars and the proper feet, I can tell you that eastern surplus's tow bars for sale are not a bad...

    Some unusual Deuce parts

My '78 M35A2 came with both an air and an electric horn. Nice bumper steps on the bottom headlight truck. As for the turned up air intake, I have thought about doing something similar given the torrential rains we have here in FL.

    th400 shifting at high rpm

The new modulator I bought last week was adjustable. The old one I took off was not. However, I chose to adjust my shift point at the regulator; slightly rotating mine towards the cab to decrease the rpm shift point. I went from 13 Hg to 14Hg at idle at the regulator output.

    th400 shifting at high rpm

From reading threads on this site and doing work on my own M1009; I would suggest checking the following: 1. Is there vacuum coming out of vac pump? 2. Is there vacuum coming out of the regulator ( side of IP ) 3. Vac lines 4. Vac Modulator on side of tranny
