That's great! I love going to the junkyard, but the seats I kept finding where really nasty. But overall its like a box of chocolates! I have gotten a lot of good metal and miscellaneous stuff!
I am having mine redone. I spent a lot of time in a SW junkyard looking for good seats. Lots of possibilities but hard to find a decent set - after all its, a junkyard...what's that stain?
Local guy is adding some foam and recovering them with a good quality vinyl. I saved a little money by...
The hammered paint is a good look, had it on a console for several years and it weathered well. I have an 84 as well and my seat mounts are also different.
Looks good though!
I just want to say THANKS for the hard work getting the site back up and running. Read through this thread and looks like quite an ordeal and headache. I may speak for many when I say we all appreciate it! The quitting cold turkey thing was harsh!
Good to hear you have support and even better funding from the wife! That's great, I like to bring home her favorite dessert after a full day of working on the Oh 9. When it's all done, summer days driving with the top off - the Oh9's top off that is...
Very well done sir! Funny, I had rust in the same places and i'm in the process of doing the same thing. The bed/cargo area has a slight 'sink' to it, and the area around the fuel filler tube cover has some surface rust as well.
Is Permatex a spray on sort of POR 15?
Again, bravely done -...
Welcome! I hope your wife or girlfriend is patient.
As for the to do list - you have come to the right place! Start with removing as much of the interior as you are comfortable doing and you'll find that you will be learning more and more about your new truck. Clean, reprint and reinstall...
Thanks, you know a red or green LED would look cool as a replacement bulb if possible...
I picked some for the dash and haven't installed yet, might have to divert one!
Thanks for the info sir, by the way your not far from miles of forest roads up there! I bet a drive up to the Tallulah...
The bumper lights look like sealed, non replaceable lights on the inside. When removing the front ones before powder coating the bumper, one of the front lights was already split. Insides were so dusty and dirt filled, hard to tell what made the tick.
So, bottom line, are they fixable or...
Hey Cyclejay, thanks for the pic! Never seen that one working. The bumper ones on my rig work, and I need figure out the blackout light. Mine has a date with the work bench of torture!
As for never using it...it's worth the fuel to get out to the first roads and try 'em out! And show the...
Welcome sir! I'll second and encourage the tech manual downloads and browsing of the forums at the top of the CUCV forums page.
There are several good places to find parts and the classifieds are helpful too.
I've learned here that following the PCMS service tips is a good idea.
Welcome...
Great looking stereo addition! Did you put speakers in the stock dash location? The LMC kick panel speakers might be pretty good, not sure though. I am seriously considering installing one of these RetroSound stereos - my kids will like the remote and the ipod connection. Wait, maybe I should...
Good luck, looks like they are in the typical spots. Again, check the rearward end of the front fenders near the door, then inboard into the floorboards - typical drainage issues there.
Seems that some soldiers, using this vehicle in its command mode, sat on the roof above the windshield...
Oops forgot to mention. - get yourself or borrow a good angle grinder with some flap wheels (80 and 180 grit) and wire brushes to clean away the bubbly surface rust and see whats really going on the under the surface. The take it down to bare metal, fill the hole as needed and re-coat/seal.
Firstly, Welcome to the group.
As for the rust holes, just a nickel in size can be filled with a mig welder pretty easily then sanded/ground smooth.
For rust prevention/control read about POR 15 products on their website and around this forum. Very good stuff! They make a rubberized...
And that's just the beginning...that's how the OD green disease begins! Welcome and if your married buy your wife some flowers before you spend 5 to 8 hours on the weekends playing with your new toy :)
The cool thing here is that we are learning of another cousin CUCV mystery out there. You might say this rig is even more unique than other CUCVs. Good find sir! $400?! Can't lose on this one!
Thank you sit! I have recently bought several cans of the carc substitute tan and a couple of gallons of the same for painting my M1009. I've done some interior work with the rattle cans and have been very impressed with the quality and the durability. Rapco/Gillespie is quality stuff!
