Get it fired up first then look for leaks and check and recheck the brakes. If it has a good brake pedal then pump it hard a few times and recheck your fluid level. Chances are after sitting that long you will need to bleed the brakes to get any pedal. Good luck.

With the bed being a foot and a half shorter. I would consider cutting the normal 3 feet off the frame or 3 1/2 max and leave a 1 to 1 1/2 foot gap between the cab and bed. That would be the perfect place to mount a spare and a jerry can on each side.

As long as all your wiring is clean and tight I would say its a bad starter. This was probably a reman and not a totaly new unit. Its hard to find new and very expensive. Sometimes you get a dud. Good luck.
