Hello and welcome to the site. The years are not as important as if it was rebuilt in the late 80s or early 90s. Soome features are beatter than others. An airshifted transfer instead of a sprag unit is nice. Multifuel turbo is better than an old gasser. Mainly because of the ability to burn...
Running diesel with a gasoline mix should clean it up for your test. We did this in Germany on a reforger deployment when we went through heavily populated areas. It was like a big parade and the locals got upset when we smoked them out. Our motor pool sgt did it to our trucks and it made a...
Copper is the best way to go. You can form it easy and it wont have to be tied down as much as a hose and is also less likely to get a hole rubbed in it.
fix it and drive it and if you want more power, these engines respond well to turbochargers. There is probably a kit in the classifieds. The difference is amazing. I have turbo charged a few 6.2s it really wakes them up.
The parking brake is a cable, not hard to access. The main thing to check is your brake fluid before you drive it home. Its under the flip up panel in the drivers floor. Those axle leaks could be brake fluid. Its very common for wheel cylinders to leak. Be safe.
I like the very first pic it looks like the crane is on the back of the truck. I think that would make into a nice pickup/bobber. And nobody could gripe about cutting up a good truck.
I think the drive would be awesome. If the military will ship your firearms I would drive the whole way. If they wont I would use the ferry. Good luck. I think a steel soldiers video documentary is in order. You could meet up with groups along the way.
We use boxed and bolted m105 frame sections. We also put plates on the side. This way we dont have to use blocks to level it up. Hundy is right on. They are safe and they ride better than deuce front springs. When you cut off 3 feet of frame and an axle you dont have as much hauling capacity (we...
A engine hoist works great. Just start with it raised high so it will have enough travel to lower the trans all the way down ( I learned this the hard way).
We run 45 gal of wmo and 5 gal of gas to thin it a little for winter. Have over 6000 miles on the truck. Runs like a top.Filtering is the key. We also change our fuel filters when we change oil and filters. Right now our cost per gallon including filters and gas is less than 70 cents.
The filter looked nasty. The engine should have decent power especially bobbed, you lost 3000 pounds from a regular deuce. Your fuel setting may be really off. Get a pyrometer and spend an afternoon cranking it up and you will be amazed at what you can get from these old engines. Good luck.
