    Check yer Tires Thoroughly

The NDT's are not real strong tires, by todays radial tire standards. When they are old and with low/ under inflated pressures, they are rather fragile. If you run them flat, as with a dual, it will usually suck the valve stem inside, most often ruining the tube (& sometimes the tire), even...

    Installing a Winch.

Hardware: I don't like nylock - I don't think they are as good as touted. Besides, they are no good here in the cold! I use "Grade C" nuts. They are equivilent to Grade 8, but a Self Locking. metal interference nut. Far superior to the Nylock stuff. Lee in Alaska

    you wnt to see SERIOUSE?

We routinely pull 100' of trailer here, on designated roads. But we can't pull them with a truck, but a semi tractor. Its like dragging a chain - 3 joints. Lee in Alaska

    M101 underbed spare mount?

The rear landing leg is there for a reason - remove it, plus the weight of the tire, and the trailer won't be very stable, when parked, especially when somebody tries to crawl in the back!. They tip over backwards. The tongue is the place for it. Lee

    Air building up in fuel???

As mentioned, the "in tank fuel pump" should push fuel out the bleed port, on the secondary filters, with the master switch ON/engine off. i recently changed fuel filters, only to find the that there was no fuel at the bleed port at the secondary filters. The short story is that my in-tank...

    A little lite work today.

They are made to keep running, and seldom let you down, at the time, but there is a cost to it! Years ago, I had an M37 in deep water and that haunted me for a couple of years. it was in the wheel bearings, the starter, the gas, the transmission.... Not much, but just a little, and when i...

    Removing Axles for Highway Driving?

I did all this stuff some time ago - like along about 35+ years ago, for a trip down the Alcan to Dawson Creek in a M211. Pulled axels, had de-splined flanges for the front axle. While there, I got stuck, put all the stuff back, and came home w/stuff installed...... No measureable...

    My M105 is a temp M103

Change out the whole cylinder. They are probably the same as the old GMC M 211. They were two piece, as I remember. If they cost too much, or its too hard to do, just buy another trailer. But the bore size, is everything, on those cylinders. Lee n Alaska

    Winch Help.

You can't be too smart out a winch. In this case, as above, just take it apart, service it. I suspect that you will find internally, a sheared key or other damage. In spite of the TMs, when these vehicles were on active duty, you might find in inconceivable, the abuse they were subjected to...

    clueless question on inner tubes

Poppop nailed it. I will only add that once a smaller tube has been used in a larger tire size, it has stretched out, and can no longer be used in the smaller tire. Lee in Alaska

    Emergency stopping questions

THE OLD "SINGLE SYSTEM" brakes were good. They were used for years. We didn't know they were dangerous. They seldom failed completely, and when they did, you could tell that before you moved the truck. When maintained properly, they are very dependable and serviceable. Lee

    12V tap off of batteries?

Converters are best! You can pull 12 volts off the second battery, at the positive post, before it goes to ground. That give you 12 V. The problem is that if you pull much juice, it will upset you voltage regulator which will cause either your system to over-charge, or under-charge. The...

    New M101 build

Looks great. Your on your way!. Guess you could use some mud flaps and a spare tire mount on the tongue, with a gas can holder in front of that. Is that Bedliner material. That i good stuff. I found that if you don't paint it with their UV protector, it will go flat. Lee in Alaska

    1990 M101a2 tail light bulbs 12V

Don't know the numbers - just get some from the parts store that look like the 24's. I think there are two of them.

    Right brake grabs & locks

Look at the inside bottom of the backing plates. If its been leaking long, you will see fluid. It will make the brake sticky. But also, It can be from broken or missing parts inside. There is the TM, on how to do things, but that doesn't have anything to do with how things are actually...

That sounds like a great deal. The high pressure side will be the up part, of course.
