"new" 5 ton for fire dpt

The tank, "full or empty", is not good enough. It needs baffles! In an emergency, lots of stuff happens. Also what are those tires rated for. Lots of Folks go for singles, but the often don't carry as much weight as duals. Lee in Alaska

    Deuce dump project

So what will you have in it? Did the hinges, lift, pump all come for one money - the $1200. That sounds pretty good. the electric pump sounds like the way to go. When you have a winch, you options are limited. The T-case PTO's are hard to find and expensive. Lee in Alaska

    Skid Marks from Towing

I have towed many vehicles. Cornering problems are not uncommon, but I would just a soon by-pass your experience. To help out on cornering, I tie off the wheel with a couple of bungee cords in each direction, left & right. It allows some turning motion, but wants to zero it, back to neutral -...

    Torque Rod Lengthening

Steel is steel. Its weldable with proper technique! Cast iron is different, but there are techniques for that too. Yeah... probably the same kinds of basic joints. Spring wrap - axle hop, what ever... When I was a kid we called the remedy Traction Masters that somebody commercially made -...

    Torque Rod Lengthening

The stuff will weld just fine, with proper technique. If your using a MIG, your probably not hot enough! However the reason that I comment again is that in your brief drawing of the spring dog-bone, you need another joint, to allow flexing. On semi-elliptical springs. both ends/sides from...

Deuce air cleaner modifiacation W/LDS engine

That original filter is going to be real hard to beat. It does a respectable job and a "Measurable difference" in performance will be an illusion. When it comes to extended service intervals, the original equipment will be the top performer! Just because its old, doesn't mean that its not...

    reo wrecker

I can't believe that with all the "so called interest" in this truck, that there isn't a vollenteer crew around it already, dragging it out of the brush. Pretty soon, some dealer will get there and get it for a song because nobody showed up. I guarentee that if I was about 56 miles closer, I'd...

    Torque Rod Lengthening

Probably a pipe sleeve would be just fine. You will be dealing with tension and compression. Do you know the dimension of the rod itself? Then you can check the nominal size of pipe, schedual 40 & 80, to see if you can get a reasonable fit. Another trick is to use a fair bit of overlap, and...

    Hard Cold Starting

Is you "in tank" lift pump workiing? If you crack the bleeders on the secondaries and turn the ignition switch ON, do you get fuel out the bleeder? Its not enough, if you can hear it running, but you have to have fuel run out the bleeders. (It can run, but not pump). When you shut it down...

    Look what i found today!

Yeah, pop those shackles off and hook on a tow bar. But really, a roll back would be a chinch. Otherwise I would use a car hauler trailer and a couple of sheets of 3/4" plywood, and a 5 ton come-along. You could get it skidding up onto a trailer. That is a great find.

    M818 Hood Latches

Somebody didn't secure their load. I,ve hauled a lot of stuff! That is part of securing the load. The driver is responsible!. It the latches were defective, he should have put a strap across it, period.! For instance, if the hood flew off and killed somebody, the driver is responsible...

    m211 with 302gas to cat 3208

Service the whole truck - check everything, even down to the air in the tires. Tune it up! I have had several 211's and drove them numerous times, all over the North, from Prudhoe Bay to Southern Alberta. One was my daily driver. That was back when the AlCan was still fun to drive. It was...

    m105 info needed please.

I guess that I am mostly alone, but my opinion about pulling a 105 with any pickup, is negative. You can "get away" with a lot of stuff, but when push comes to shove, your nuts to pull one. They are way too heavy and big, and will push you into the middle of next week. If your in an accident...

    Electric fuel Pump install?

You might want to shield that pump from the exhaust system there. Its going to be pretty warm in that spot.

    Winter Dress

Its been a long while since I saw the blankets. I have seen the fronts come up for sale, but not the blankets. 30 years ago, when you saw the truck on the road in winter, they were in full winter dress. The new vehicles, don't use blankets here. Back then I had blankets for the M37 & M211...

any pics of fuel heater on 809's?

I just replaced non functional engine coolant heater in an M35 with a NOS heater. The oil pan already had the shroud, but no exhaust tubing to the shroud from the heater. The exhaust port on the heater is one size and the exhaust inlet port on the shroud is another size. My question is, what...
