I think my 5th gear is a .79 My tire roll out is 166 inches. Anyway, what ever it is, there is about a 32% difference in RPM vs MPH for me. And, who know how much these tires 'grow' at 60mph.
Maybe what we are missing is the 'net' result. Or, what the motor see's. The rear end ratio (6.72...
Booger's version of rear exhaust
I thought I would try something a little different. I ran my exhaust out the back, behind the right rear tire. I can't hear the exhaust noise, even with the windows down.
so the 3052 would give you a lower gear set for bigger tires, however, your kind of loosing two gears. Now your not using 1st because it's too low ( or not necessary ) and you don't have an overdrive. I understand 5th will be a little taller in direct with 53's than overdrive is with 9.00's...
tm america,
i agree with you, the driveline angle is not an issue if you put the aux trans in between the trans and transfer where it belongs.
Does anybody know what the actual gear ratio's are on the 3052 and 3053 ?
I've got a pretty steep grade to deal with on the hi-way out of here every morning. Getting up to speed is only a challenge between 3rd and 4th. Once I'm in 4th it pulls great as well as in 5th. If I shift at 2300 in 3rd, 4th gear is trying pull the grade at 1300 ( maybe even a little less...
That's OK. Sounds like I'm looking for a 3052. Changing the transmission is much simpler and cheaper than moving things around to accomidate an Auxillary trans. I'm geared plenty tall since I'm running 53's
There must be a box small enough to fit inbetween the transmission and transfer case. Even moving the transfer case back a little bit might be worth it. I need all of the gear options with the front locked in.
What is a Mitchell 3000-A gear splitter? Is that like a Brownie? What are you trying to split— between third and fourth? With 53's I get a thousand rpm drop between third and fourth. I bought a Spicer 6041 (2 unders, a direct, and an over). It's also too big and you'd have to move too much...
1stDuece,
Did you ever get the groove-on your tires? Chains are the best of course in snow and ice. I grooved mine like this. Once you get rid of that solid rib down the middle you'll be amazed at the traction.
