There you go - enjoy it for a while, get a feel for what needs to be done when you tear into her before you take that step. Collect parts as you get the money and run across deals. For Gods sake, don't spend too much time with her - the JEEP will get jealous and might start breaking down on YOU...
Uh-Oh - you'd better get her done ASAP! Life happened to me in 1998 - that's why I am just getting mine finished up. Just kidding - take it slow and steady and put priorities first! Just keep us in the loop on your progress, large or small steps.
Thanks! Compliments and encouragement from friends and family really help keep you chugging along on a long rebuild. Yours won't take that long - you are starting with a really good, complete Jeep - you'll have her (almost) done in no time! I say "almost" because they are never really done...
I hope to get mine out on the road again this weekend - I need to install some shorter belts, as my generator is vibrating on the motor mount. I also ned to change my temp sender - mine stops at about 90 deg - might be the gauge though. Then I can ride without too many worries!
Thanks dude! It's been a long time, but I'm starting to feel the pride! I took a short ride down the road a little while ago and passed 8 cars - people were beeping their horns waving and smiling - good feeling!
I couldn't stand it - I had to try on the side curtains and notch the license...
Hey guys,
I thought I would share a couple of pics from today - another milestone in my resto. Dave (Pizzoferrato) from Weebee Webbing came down and picked up his M416 today and brought my new winter enclosure (minus doors). As soon as he left, I pulled the Jeep out of the shop and started...
I got my insurance last week from J.C.Taylor - $128/yr, $0 dedectable, 3500mi/yr, not a daily driver, $15,000 payout. My insurance co. (Liberty Mutual) wanted $371/yr, $500 deductable, unlimited mileage, book value payout.
Hardly no rust - GREAT! Dents and a fresh coat of paint are pretty cheap. Radiator - see if it is repairable. They come up on ePay sometimes. Last time I asked, you couldn't get a replacement core for them (don't know why - I didn't ask). That was 12 yrs ago though - maybe you can now.
See -...
FUNNY! I thought it said pastries - I could go for a doughnut with my coffee right now! Yeah, pasties are great - wish they had a place around here in the south.
Looks like a great 'a1 - you won't regret spending a little extra for one that needs just a little work (instead of major missing...
That's great - CONGRATULATIONS! That's for your accomplishment and your new toy. And, no offense to this forum, may I suggest that you join the http://www.willysmjeeps.com forum. It is dedicated to the M38 and M38a1 jeeps only - a lot of knowledge there.
Soft top? Take it off for sure! If towing with a tow dolly, take the rear driveshaft off and stay at around 60-65mph. Just take the top off for a trailer haul at 75mph.
Yeah, keep it 12v. I, personally, like the fact that you can go to the parts stores and buy just about any part you need for a '70 CJ5. When you are 24v, you'd better have spares in the toolbox under the seat! I can't even find 24v bulbs around here. Like jime said, you won't automatically get a...
They are money pits, but so are boats, cars, houses - might as well get something to enjoy, right? Its worth it in the end, and I can almost see the light!
