When do you hate your 5 ton !

I hate my 5 ton M813A1 because it takes up a lot of room in my barn. I love my 5 ton because it has paid for itself in movie rentals!

    New winch arrived!!

I just replaced my lower a-arm bolts to do a electric winch install with the newer winch brackets. Use a floor jack to lift up on the a-arm just enough to take pressure off the bolt but I did not lift the tire off the ground. My bolts slid right out as I installed the new bolts. I did not...

    air horn intake

Each bolt requires a flat washer and a rubber washer (for vibration). If you do not install the rubber washer, the air horn will crack with time. Get a 5/16 grommet and cut in half crossways. 12 is the flat washer 11 is rubber washer

    Halftrack door Armor

I am always impressed with WWII steel/armor. It can sit outside for 60 plus years and is not even pitted! Thanks for saving them and the other pieces in the pile.

    cooling fan removal help

There is a hydraulic line, very small, that is connected from the shroud on the drivers side and goes to the fan clutch. Disconnect line at fan clutch (3/8 or 7/16). It is a knuckle buster. Then remove the 4 nuts (1/2" IIRC) and then maneuver fan blade over clutch and remove. PIA. Good luck.

    HMMWV Sliding Windows

Loose rivets in the track (track to door skin) allow them to flex and drop the window down. Does your window have the bushings on the 4 studs to allow it to track up and down? Also, slamming the door to close because latch is out of alignment will cause this. Oh a worn peg will do the same...

    General Checkout on HMMWV's

The one near me had to be personally signed by the Chief. If/when he leaves, he has to return it or the new guy has to personally sign for it.

    General Checkout on HMMWV's

On the 87, check the bolt that holds the halfshaft in the hub. Change hub oil and check the spindle for being loose. Older hmmwv's can loose the spindle with tire attached if assembled incorrectly. Check and or replace the glow plugs, get the newer type that do not break or swell. Also, if...

    Slow to Start

Switching your old box to the new box is plug and play (disconnect batteries first). With the old box, it is best to spray a lubricant on the cannon plugs prior to disconnecting or you can bust the threaded nut. Some hmmwv owners have had bad luck with kascar glow plugs breaking off. I have...

    Slow to Start

Ground harness: 535-A1- Ground Kit, 4 Wire, A, B, C, D, $70 at Kascar. The old Prestolite control box might be tired. I use Yellow Label KDS with matching GPC sensor (yellow band). OR the latest EESS control box. Stay away from the control box that requires a separate glow plug harness.

    Slow to Start

When working on the PCB, never plug or unplug cannon connectors while batteries are connected. All hmmwvs should have the ground wire kit installed and most/if not all auction hmmwv's did not have them. It connects the left rear engine head grounding point to: PCB mounting screw, Generator...

There are several inner braces that have been made. Only one fits this application. I have an unmounted one at home and I will snap a picture of it with a tape measure.

    Rear bumper pictures

Your welcome. The inner braces have slots on both ends. When installing new rear bumpers and all brackets, it is best to losely fit every piece and then tighten the frame brackets to the frame first. Then level and tighten bumper to frame brackets. Then tighten pintle assembly to bumper and...

    Which top is best?

Soft tops work with hard doors. 4 man soft top kits include soft doors, top and c-pillar and rear curtain. Colors are green, tan, and 3 color camo. You can also get the rear cargo area cover for a wagon look. Slant back are cool looking but leak.

    Rear bumper pictures

Pictures of the original tool bracket clip and the relocating of it to use with airlift bumper. The mount on the inner braces needs to be located on the upper location. The angle brackets allow for the latch to line up with the mount. The factory angle brackets are tall and hit the inner...
