Two steps forward one back.
Got the interior sprayed with lizard skin acoustic spray and thermal barrier. Much better so far.
Picked up a RAM mount console to stash all my 12v fuses and relays. Just test fitting it.
Then I took it for a spin and the brakes were spongy. Took a look...
Well I have some catching up to do.
4l80 is in the truck and it is awesome. It really is how the truck should be from the factory. Best mod yet.
While on the rack I discovers my pittman arm was jacked up so I ordered a new pittman arm and idler arm.
At the higher speeds tire balance...
If you want more power your best bet is to do an LS swap.
I’m not trying to be a smart Alec. An LS swap is easy. it’s been done a million times in square body trucks and the RPM range is very compatible with the turbo 400 if you do not want to change that as well. Also the wiring is a breeze...
If I had it off I would 100% do valve cover gaskets while I was there.
If you don’t they will start leaking next week.

If you are planning on any serious traveling I would recommend a 4 speed transmission and some serious work in sound deadening and insulation.
With no air conditioning they are hot in the summer so the insulation will go a long way to keep it cool.
If you are going to be doing any trail...
It’s supposed to lube up the valve train. Don’t know if it works but it shouldn’t hurt anything. It does make quite a smoke show though.

Yes. Both are very normal. Diesel engines need heat to operate so until a certain cylinder temp is reached you are not burning all of the fuel hence the white smoke.
Because it’s not burning all the fuel it’s not running very efficiently hence the clatter.

That’s complete supposition. The FMTV is different. Loggers are not known as early adopters. They buy 5 tons and would pay more because they have 10 parts trucks in the bushes or because they don’t want to change. It has very little to do with the actual truck.
My point has nothing to do with...
Simp, I honestly don’t have a dog in this hunt, but I would quit using the logging analogy to try to show the 5 ton trucks in a positive light.
I have spent most of my life either in or around logging. Thankfully I got out! Much of my family still does.
Real loggers use logging equipment to...
