I suggest you search the SVO section of: http://biodiesel.infopop.cc/eve/forums. That is a much larger community running SVO. Some of those there are using GM vehicles with the 6.2L/6.5L.
You can't set the engagement pressure independent of the disengagement pressure. They are relative to each other. If it won't adjust up or is erratic, just replace it. IIRC, counterclockwise adjustment will increase the pressure.
If it was stored correctly, the desiccant would have absorbed any moisture, so no problem. Even if it was exposed to atmosphere, it will be fine -- It not a Honda.

The brand of the seal has nothing to do with your problem. Something else is wrong. Post good pictures of the hub parts and what order you are trying to install them in. And a picture of the spindle.

If you don't care about keeping the truck original, you can get a generic air pressure switch. You would have to change the terminals on your harness. Any heavy truck parts store...
There aren't much to these alternators. Just because they are military, it doesn't make them any different from working on an OTR truck alternator. Any repair shop should be able to work on them. Or do it yourself.
Congrats on the truck. The tach displays the engine hours. If it is indeed a 1977 truck, I don't believe it would be a Kaiser-Jeep. It should be an AM General.
