You don't even need to do that. A Deuce has Air over hydraulic brakes, not true air brakes. But with no air, you have no assist. I am surprised they never came with a shop air connection. I have that on the list of to-dos.

To me, that sounds like you have a battery cable causing a voltage drop. Check your battery cables and connections.

I believe it's a step that started with the older front axle shafts. The old style shaft doesn't use a U-joint. It has a CV type joint. This joint must have that bath of grease to keep it operating.
