With an automatic, even 50 miles at speed is too much. That trans should never be turning with the engine off if you want to keep it working long term. Put the xfer case in neutral or just simply pull the drive shaft.

IMO, I wouldn't do that. The axle wasn't designed for that style of lubrication....some non-powered axles are like that. For the bearings to be lubed by the gear oil, it needs, as you say, a bath of oil. It wouldn't get enough gear lube to the bearings. Many modern axle designs require the...

Finally, an on topic post to this question. Lee has a great point. In this case, it would be best to keep the axles stock. You need to look at transmission or xfer case modifications for better speed.
This is suppose to be a technical forum! It seems some feel your truck is theirs...

This is simply operator error. Just because someone can't shift correctly, doesn't make the correct procedure "bad for the transmission".
