test the voltage at each alternator while the truck is running, report back with the findings. put one lead on the large lug with the red wire and the other on the engine block.

If you are use a freeze plug heater, you need to put it in one of the front two plugs on the drivers side. FYI the freeze plug can fall into the block if your not careful, but even if it does you can get it out.(after some cursing ;) )
there is a TM for the engine in the "troubleshooting manual" thread, should have IP stuff in it. Not sure how in depth it goes as the IP's are exactly rebuildable by anyone.
you get air blowing but no heat? first check the lines going to and from the heater core, one could have collapsed. then i'd say its time to replace the thermostat. FYI its the expensive one at the parts store, they will have two listed. Its the $37 one.
you can to the kingpins by yourself without any special tools. its a three hour tops project on a saturday.
the actual kingpins rarely ever need to be replaced, its the plastic bushing on the top that wears out, and the spring that holds it down.
the resistor only enables the glow plugs to be operated from the slave connector when jumping the truck with both batteries dead.
you need to get your alternators checked. If they check out, then you need to see if they are making voltage while in the truck, then look for a parasitic drain...
