maritimer was refering to the "convection pump style" heater. They blow a regular block heater out of the water, much better.

I have tried stud extractors, sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. With that much left to grab, weld a nut to it for sure.

sound like that trans is done. If you put the tcase into gear first, then the trans does the engine soung like its loading up (rpms drop)

if just the nose cone housing cracked, you can have the replaced. Odds are that the starter can be rebuilt, and that would be the cheapest route.

in a stock 1008 the shift from 1st to 2nd should happen at about 15mph, and the shift to 3rd at about 35mph.

the 1028 is not a 3/4 truck. the only difference between the 1008 and the 1028 is that the 1028 has a limited slip in the front axle. The dually 1028A1 and A2 are heavier, but are still not 3/4ton trucks.

Since you have a turbo get the 6.5L mechanical pump. Also I'd pull your injectors and have them calibrated for the higher pop pressures the new pump will put out. Also have the nozzles checked, if they need replacing use ONLY Bosch tips.

Have someone drive next to you, if you can go faster than 40mph you are in third gear.

ajm, have you had experience in cleaning out the water traps, I think the trap on my passenger side is close to plugged.
