If I remember right, the sticker on the tach was at or around 2100 to 2200.
Also, I can't be sure the speedo was completely accurate. Just going by what the gauges were telling me. I've seen some pretty significant differences between tach and speedo readings on different trucks with the same...
I went to columbus to help drive some 818's off the lot on Tuesday, but it turned out only one of them was road worthy. One needed fluids we didn't have, one was about out of fuel, and the last just wouldn't start. There were also paperwork issues that didn't jive with one of the trucks...
The one I drove on tuesday ran 55 easily. Redline put it at around 57 mph, I think. It acted like it would do more, but it wasn't my truck... Not sure on the fuel mileage, as we didn't go very far.
It was bobtailed, also.
RE: Vice
I like the trailer, but what's that stuck to the side of it in the first pic?
Just funnin' you, of course. Good to hear "the bug" didn't kill ya'.
RE: tire tools
I normally use a hi lift jack, but it doesn't always work with a stubborn tire. There's a piece of 3/16" plate in the garage that's slowly taking the shape of the bead breaker on a tire machine, but it still needs a little work. The plate will be bolted to the base of the hi...
There's plenty of info on that subject in the alternative fuels forum. Try the search function and you'll have enough reading material for quite some time.
I think the point of this thread is to talk about civilian vehicles that the military has appropriated for military uses. Staff cars and construction equipment are good examples from the original post.
Kinda like those "cattle cars" that new recruits get to ride around in, or the International...
When I did my first filter change after getting my truck, I noticed half the guts of the primary filter can were gone. There was a filter in it, but it was essentially bypassed. When I worked my way around to the secondaries I found a big pile of sludge in the first can that should've been...
Well the mileage isn't too far off a 5 ton gasser, and the oil consumption sounds like stretch's cj2a at haspin.
Now I gotta find someone that wants to go "halvsies" for one. (I wish I knew how to spell words that don't exist)
Wow. I guess you didn't get the phrase "worthless for my purposes" from my post. It it a very nice pic of the tower, but I didn't see any description that might help with what I was looking for. I was trying to identify the trailer. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers...
