Very good Rally! The weather was absolutely perfect. I finally arrived home at 2:00 PM after a long and boring drive. Actually a boring drive home is good because it means no breakdowns. Those that missed the Rally don't know what they missed. Thanks to Clinto and Gunnermac and everyone...
I've never owned any versions of the M151. However, I put a lot of miles on both the A1 and A2 models while overseas in the Army. The A2 is a better vehicle than the A1 in my opinion.
I'm all loaded up and full of fuel. Unfortunately, I can't leave from Hiawassee until Thursday morning. I'll be pulling my M149A2 Water Buffalo. I had a little delay because my alternator failed. I installed a rebuilt one and it is working great.
I find it easier to own diesel-powered vehicles that I try to keep mostly full. That way I can use the auxiliary fuel hose when I need more fuel for the generator, and best of all, the fuel is always 100% fresh. No storage of fuel required. I can't imagine that living in an area like Miami...
I now have the new alternator installed and it is charging correctly. Actually a very easy job, but the rain made the job last a few days. I'll start PMing the deuce tomorrow, but I don't expect any issues since I drive the truck fairly often and I routinely check most everything frequently.
Yes it activates the solenoid. Sometimes the solenoid can hang up even though I keep it and the linkage lubricated. If the genset doesn't start firing, I release the start switch and manually exercise the solenoid up and down and then attempt a start.
I have the old alternator off, just in time for the downpours to start. I may ask my wife to hold an umbrella over my head while I work, but she may have something to say about that!
Since the 10th digit in the VIN is 'J' the production date was 1988. The 10th digit is the key to production dates for most VINs.

The backhoe is almost identical to the Case Model 35C civilian backhoe. I bought a printed parts manual for the 35C backhoe on Ebay for $10.00 and it has been very useful. They are still listed on Ebay for $10.00. I had some problems with the backhoe when I first got my SEE. The first...
If you have spark at the plugs and absolutely nothing is happening, you either have a fuel problem or your camshaft isn't turning. Even if your timing is way off, you should still hear an occasional sound of firing. Do what NDT suggested which will confirm that the camshaft is turning and...
You will always have one battery fail before the other. The chances that both batteries will give up the ghost simultaneously is very remote. When I have one battery fail, I replace both of them at once. I keep a 24 VDC battery minder on mine all the time when not in use. I routinely get ~9...
Most old cars and trucks with points/condenser ignition had a filter capacitor to help with radio interference, regardless of the battery voltage . In most cases you could see the capacitor attached to the exterior of the distributor or nearby.
What I thought was a pneumatic line in my earlier post, turns out to be an electrical connector on an electrical cable, which was taped off. Does anyone know what the purpose of this connector is? It is located on top of the fuel filter and the cable runs to the rear of the engine in a bundle...
