Wife's supervisor told her if she can get a certain coworker to trade days with her she can have the time off again.

If pressure is building up in the brake system you have a problem other than heat. When the brake pedal is not applied the fluid is free to return to the master cylinder.
You most likely have a blockage in the air-pack or master cylinder not letting the fluid return.

Pour just a little fuel in the carb and see if it fires. If it does your not getting fuel. The needle is ether stuck, not installed right or the float is not adjusted right. If it does not fire off you are probably flooded.
No matter how you slice it your most likely going back into the carb. Sorry
Today I did my report for my fuel blenders tax.
I took the info over the last year to figure my actual fuel millage.
I run 100% used oil, Mostly in the 5-30 range with a little trans fluid from the occasional transmission flush.
My mileage came out to 7.88 miles to the gallon. Seems a little...
If a replacement is available and inexpensive replace it.
If its costly I would put it in my big drill press and run some emery cloth on it and see how it came out.

Living in rainy Oregon I wonder if you could ingest enough water at speed to hurt something? Collapse the air filter or hydro lock?

I had mine go bad and only fuel three cylinders. I do not remember if it was every other one.
Took a long time to get up to speed. New hydraulic head fixed it right up.
