I suppose you've already got it changed over to the manual, but did you ever check the fluid pressure on this thing? I realize you were probably pretty frustrated, but that is a pretty important troubleshooting step.

He said both rear axles and the bed not shortened, but I'm guessing he was mistaken on that as the one you posted is the only one I've ever seen on there. If there is one with both rear axles and a full bed, I'd like to see it. That would be some kind of monster.

I've never done the rallies or anything, but from the various message boards, I get the impression that the only people that worry about all the little nitty gritty details are the Jeep MB/GPW crowd. I think that's only because a properly restored Jeep can go for tens of thousands of dollars...

You're probably right, but you can build just about anything you want. I was wondering if there was anything "off-the-shelf" that even compared to a deuce. Something with an updated chassis, drivetrain, etc., a water/air tight cab and some simple comforts (better seats, A/C), but not a luxury...

Wonder what it would take to build a stripped-down, modern workhorse like the deuce? Cargo bed, 6x6, power steering, air/hydraulic disc-brakes (or drums), heat, A/C, big diesel, automatic overdrive transmission. But, I don't want all the fancy creature comforts like the GM and International...

Yes, you can still run other fuels, you will just get varying degrees of performance based on fuel type. That's my understanding, anyway.

Wont it cause the rears to bind in the transfer case which would then cause them to skid? What about when you go in reverse? On snow or mud, I could see how there would be enough slip for it not to matter, but on dry pavement, I would think it would be bad news.

That's what I was thinking, too. That sounds like a recipe for disaster.
