    1028 2000 mile roadtrip reliability

I agree with Stonepicker1. Keep the speed reasonable and it should be fine. But that's the problem on the freeways...... Hard to hold it under 55-60MPH

cb radio install need some ideas

I would mount a shorter Firestick type antenna right where the original military antennas were mounted, High on the back part of the truck. In most all cases, The longer 102" whip will outperfrom the shorter antenna by a wide margin.

cb radio install need some ideas

The best performance would be with the 102" whip mounted in the center of the roof. Of course that is very impractical as the antenna would be far to tall to fit in any type of drive through etc. Not to mention how it would whip about. Most 102" whips are usually mounted real low on the rear...

cb radio install need some ideas

I mounted a Yaesu FT 8800 VHF/UHF mobil radio right in the dash where a normal AM/FM radio would go. Had to cut some steel with a muffler cutter to make it fit, But worked out well.

cb radio install need some ideas

While there is some interaction between antennas, Just seperate them by as much distance as you can and don't worry about it. One antenna on each side of the vehicle and then one near the rear would work out good. Years ago I used an 11 meter antenna similar to the Firestick (Fiberglass) on a...

cb radio install need some ideas

Odds are good you are not actually using the ham frequencies. You may very well be legal on the so called MURS or similar frequencies, OR you might simply be racing in an area with no ham operators or clubs who activly hunt down violators. The reason for the use makes no difference. The FCC...

cb radio install need some ideas

YES indeed! It is easy and cheap to get a ham license nowadays. Join in on the fun! FCC has no humor about non licensed operation at all. Fines start at $10,000 Some serious violators have even received jail time. Many ham clubs have regular "fox hunts" where they practice hunting down a...

    Wanted 12volt B/O driveing Light

A number of different BO lights use a single contact bulb inside the housing and not the sealed beam. The trick is to find the entire light with that type of set up and just replace the bulb with a 12 volt bulb.

cb radio install need some ideas

It is now easier than ever to get a ham license, And then be able to talk around the world legally, Use VHF and UHF repeater systems that will put CB and GMRS/FRS to shame, etc. Note that many newer ham VHF/UHF radios can also work on FRS/GMRS, MURS, Marine bands, etc with the simple snip of a...

    1008 speed and MPG

The M1008, M1028, M1031, etc all have 4.56-1 gears, So as pointed out, 45 to 50 MPH is about it if you care at all about your motor.......... I just switched to the old Hummer tires and wheels on the back of my M1031, And that does add almost 10 MPH without screaming the motor. The M1009...

    Fake Recoilless Rifle

The problem with the steel cut up kits is they are HEAVY! Not to mention expensive. I expect the weight of one of those kits on a Mule would really make it top heavy and tippy. I picked up a few short cut off sections of those steel barrels with the intent to just use a few inches at the...

    Wheel Backspace Adapter Q's. M1008

How thick do the spacers need to be to fit older steel Hummer wheels to the front of my M1031? (The old Hummer steel wheels fit on the back of the M1031 just fine, But the steering linkage is in the way in front. The Hummer wheel has too much offset) Or am I further off just putting the...

    M1009 Civilian hitch Install

I installed one of those "combo" hitches in place of the pintle hitch. Bolted right on same holes. (This is the hitch that actually is a pintle hitch, But with the upper part up, The lower part IS a 2 inch trailer hitch ball) Super easy to do, BUT the thing is far too high off the ground for...

new member like to say hello, need help with my new M35A3

WELCOME to SS! Sounds like backing off the adjustment a little bit will at least get you rolling for now. Sometimes surface rust on the steel drum can cause this.

    New California Halftrack Project Planning

Over the years I have fixed up a number of WWII halftracks and an M3A1 Scout car. The halftrack is a very easy vehicle to restore/work on. It will NOT however do what you want. I suggest you find a running halftrack owner and go for a few actual rides to see just what you are up against. A...
