I just installed a set of 36X12.50-16.5 tires/wheels off a Humvee on the back of my M1031.
Fit perfect, REALLY took care of the low 4.56-1 gears for highway travel! Rolls down the highway with the motor at much lower RPMs now. Problems include a little bit of "sway" with the new tires only...
That's one of the GREAT features of having old military trucks! NO 600 grit sand paper needed! And a few minor flaws in a paint job just make it look more original!
Finally started to go through all the tools for the trucks, And put them away in proper places. Bigger job than I thought!
Also shop vac cleaned out all the toolbox compartments of both trucks.
Those compartments hold lots of stuff! Going to order another Victor torch knock off for the...
I agree that it is a great idea to replace ALL rubber lines, Including heater and radiator hoses. After all, They are all well over 20 years old!
So far, The only downside I have found with my M1009 is the noise. Some carpet and sound deadning would help.......
Finally got the ox/acy torch set up all installed in M1031 #1, Used one of those Victor knock off torch sets from Ebay for 99 bucks, Mounted the tanks in the right side of the truck. Is that nice! Used it today to cut up some steel bars a ways from my shop. Great to be able to just drive up to...
I have never done much of anything with Sky Command, I just use the simpleton cross band repeat with my TS 2000.
(I have done some remote control of older Icom radios, 2410H)
For cross band repeat operation, It is best to have a dual band hand held so you can control and monitor both your...
The Kenwood TS 2000 has to be the best "Bang for the buck" do it all radio available today! And with the simple mod done they will transmit (In an emergency situation only of course) On the marine band, VHF and UHF commercial bands, Military freqs, etc. Only downside I found was they do not...
MWMULE, That bike rack is great! When you get a chance could you post a photo or two of how you attached the steel tube to the frame/bumper/shackle lift points?
Any plans for changing the gearing so it can easily do highway speeds?
I have heard that the really cheap way is to just replace the rear ring and pinion, And then use caution to never use 4WD unless in mud or something really slick..... I am trying to learn the simple easy quick way to do...
Yep, The M1009 will cruise right along at 65+ MPH no problem, (And get good fuel mileage doing it too) Unlike the others (M1031, 1010, 1028 etc) with the "low" 4.56-1 gears that have a top speed of 50-55.
What I didn't expect was the NOISE. The M1009 in it's stock form is really loud. They...
Yep, I agree with Oilleaker1. I have had good luck with the 600 wet/dry paper, doing it wet, And using one of those body work 3x5 inch hard rubber backing pads for the sandpaper. After you get the sanding done, Use some clear coat spray over the whole thing and they look brand new.
An "On demand" regulator (Sells for about 50 bucks brand new if you shop around) Is the only main part you need to make the conversion. As already pointed out, You will have a little less power than on gas.
Title and license requirements are different in all the states. Check with your local DOT to see what works in your state.
Years ago a person could just get one of those Alabama titles and you were good to go. Most states have now stopped that. I would sure check on your local state before...
I used the smaller size batteries in mine, And "shimmed" the batteries with that hard pink styrofoam insualtion to make up the difference. Even here in cold country, The smaller batteries have plenty of power to start it, And the styrofoam is holding up well as a shim material.
Anyone have any tips on repairing the ROPS for an M151A2? I searched around here and see no mention of the Roll Over Protection System. Mine were torched off and do not seem to match up. I suspect my lower came from a different vehicle than the upper cut part.
